Shortened to flid. A term for someone a bit physically disabled, although used for the mentally disabled also.

to do with the heavy use of the drug thalidomide
during pregnancies in the 50s and 60s. It was believed to be beneficial but in the end it created a lot of kids with mutated limbs.

The first mother takes a vitamin c pill-"Well i wan't my baby to be bright and intelligent"
The second mother takes a calcium pill-"Well I want my baby to have strong bones"
The third mother takes a thalidomide pain killer-The other mums look on in horror she replies"Well i can't do arms"...

an insult from the 1970s and 1980s,

Not an insult,
a morning sickness control pill that caused deformities in children, the most famous of which was underdeveloped limbs. I believe it's a reference to not being able to reach the top shelf.

and also a term which was used during the 70s and 80s
as an insult.
Admittedly derived from the afore mentioned explaination you gave.

They didn't use 'flid' to treat mothers though.
So that word is an insult.
Apparently it's why a lot of pregnant ladies suffering with pregnancy sickness don't get medicated, as they're unsure of the risk. Bless them.

you are right.
What with calling someone a Flid being massively insulting.
Some would say on a par with producing pictures above 5k and posting them on b3ta.
