# afternoon folks
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:40, archived)
# I guessed that was white stripes without looking at the file name.
But I did just to check.

WYH!

# I think if i'd just drawn
red and white boxes with a black box on top of each you could have guessed :D
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:46, archived)
# Well one would have to be female with drum sticks.
And the other with a guitar.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:51, archived)
# Your drawing of Jack White looks like me
more like me than the real person does.

For that you get extra gold stars.

which brings your total up to woo.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:41, archived)
# Isn't it more likely
That you look like a Toats version of Jack White?

'ning all.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:53, archived)
# I thought he'd made it look more like me deliberately
to honour me.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:56, archived)
# Let's not get carried away here!
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:57, archived)
# Ah now I see the similarity!

# Aww they're not that bad..
bless em.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:43, archived)
# they are fantastic musicians
Icky Thump is a top return track.

Makes me sad to think John Peel never heard it :(
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:43, archived)
# We'll always be poles apart on this
as my musical tastes are way over the other side of the scale. I'm just not convinced. Anyone can rip off Led Zeppelin and besides. it's ECKY thump you Yank ingrates ;)
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:45, archived)
# I thought it was a deliberate spelling change
But I can't be arsed to check
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:47, archived)
# There was some debate on Talk Sport the other afternoon ( Hawksbee
( Hawksbee and Jacobs have an album review every afternoon ) and the consensus was that it's just another Sherman Tank mis-hearing.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:49, archived)
# It is deliberate.
I read it in some Rolling Stone album preview. Why it was changed was not explored though.

# from the band's website
Though some residents of northern England might almost recognize the title, the Stripes stress they are spelling it wrong intentionally just for "kicks" and "metaphors", and to avoid a possible lawsuit from the estate of Billy Eckstine

# You mean that you're the only Black Lace fan on the board?
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:09, archived)
# gah.
I tend to wander from David Sylvian and Alternative Jazz to the likes of The Sounds of Blackness and Jazz Funk/Fusion, if you must know ;)
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:20, archived)
# mmm sounds tasty
You might not be too far removed from what I like.
I am generally happy as long as no wailing or screeching guitars are involved
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:25, archived)
# Indeed.
As far as I am concerned the saying goes...

"For those about to rock....can you piss off out of earshot or there is going to be an almighty fight"
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:28, archived)
# hahahahahahahah
*adopts motto*
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 18:00, archived)
# They do divide people
But I think they're outstanding. I have a stripey elephant tattoo.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:47, archived)
# I'm sure Bill Oddie is planning his 'Ecky Thump remix as we speak...
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:47, archived)
# I was about to say similar :)

# When I lived in Walthamstow
the woman downstairs had really bad epilepsy. Often she'd have a fit then lay on the ground and bang her head repeatedly on the floor. It was a dull rhythmic thud of despair.
It's almost precisely the same sound, and for all I know the same technique, as the drum track in most White Stripes music.
I think some of their songs are ok in terms of writing ability, but the basic inability of the drummer and the horrible drum production renders them unlistenable for me.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:51, archived)
# I think he's stuck with her what with her being his sister/wife/mum and all
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:56, archived)
# Yawn.
As big a cliche as the old 'Radiohead are depressing' nonsence. If the White Stripes had an immense, complex drum track, it would ruin their simplicity. They don't want to sound like Tool or Mars Volta.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:59, archived)
# radiohead are not depressing
I don't like them much but at least I can recognise their talent. Have you heard this new album? Makes a mockery of what you say up there.
They have hired a full orchestra and a legion of session musos and made every effort to sound EXACTLY like Led Zeppelin.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:05, archived)
# There's a subtle difference between a cliche
and an often-repeated truth. She really is an awful drummer.
Simplicity does not equate to inability, and I'm very clear in my own mind which of those two qualities her drumming possesses.
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:05, archived)
# Like I said,
they have a tendancy to divide people! :)
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 17:29, archived)
# I'm with you on this one
(, Sun 6 May 2007, 16:54, archived)
# Hmm... I think that might just be the White Stripes
If so *clcik*
