why you need to WAIT to quit
why can't you just not turn up?
tell them you're leaving - don't show up. what will they do to punish you? fire you for not showing up?

Also it means that I quit, as opposed to get fired - looks very different on a CV.

My stepdad left his job at Focus, he gave them a letter and everything, but he couldn't leave for another two weeks!
It's madness!

but they'll escort me off the premises because I have full access to the servers :) So they can't really let me work an extra week.
Also if you don't work your notice period, they can withhold pay (it's usually in your contract).

but applied to 8 jobs today and I have freelance work I can do for the moment.
Besides which they have to legally give me a week's notice which means an extra week of pay during which I can jobhunt.

I'm not quite going to do that, but I will give them a self-satisfied smirk as I leave the room.

The difference between US and UK cop chase shows is that:
- In the UK ones the bad guy can get away.
- In the US the cops are all shown as heros, and not the petty, humourless cunts they really are, like they are shown in the UK shows.
- The US PIT maneuver causes more collateral damage then the bad guys ever cause on their own.
