# This is what I'm hoping will let me in uni next year

I've also got a reasonable amount of sketchbooks which have research and such in them.
By the way, the smarties font is one I made, it's in a selection of jpg at the moment, anyone know any good font making software?

Edit: Why is everyone ":)" at me? I do not understand these font softwares very well.

# Ha. Ha.
XD
I wanna move to London. Duh.
Though if I don't get in there, maybe MICA (in Baltimore) or some other place in London, or just outside of.

I think a lot of the Britpop artists went there?

# Good luck.
They want fine art mostly from what I know.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:29, archived)
# Oh, really?
There's someone on here...quibble, I think...goes there. I talked to him about it once, but I barely remember the conversation.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:35, archived)
# He only did a foundation course.
He's doing an animation course in Portsmouth or somewhere now.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:37, archived)
# Ooooh
okay.
I think he said something about the people there being pretentious? But that's basically all art schools. I went to visit my cousin at MICA and it was just...yeah.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:38, archived)
# There's non pretentious people at LCC :(
But yes, most people in art schools are pretentious.

The best place to find non-pretentious people is by talking to them or joining the Anime club.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:40, archived)
# anime club?
but which is better, pretentious or sad?
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:43, archived)

# *falls off chair laughing*
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:49, archived)
# No, like
I'm sure there's plenty non-pretentious people. My cousin's friends are all awesome. Hahahah.
But I did see quite a few who were. I even saw a girl trying to look thoughtful and smoking a pipe.

Hahahah, my counselor is the advisor of my schools Anime club. But I never joined. She wanted me to. I did Video Game club last year, but it's shit this year.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:44, archived)
# Ours is both.
Manga Anime and Games Society.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:46, archived)
# Ahhhh
I see.
Our Games club advisor is a ridiculously strict math teacher who is really really cool out of class. And a Nintendo player all the way. x]
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:49, archived)
# Haha, nice.
We tend to have a wii, 360 and sometimes a PS2 I think, I don't think we have a PS3. I'm not sure.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:52, archived)
# We had a 360, and a Wii.
You really shouldn't even bring those into school (kids brought them from home) because everything just gets stolen all the time.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:57, archived)
# Haha, we only bring them on the games night.
And it's hard to have something stolen while it's being used and no-one noticing.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:58, archived)
# He held a game night
to try and raise money so we could go to a gaming convention. Barely anyone came. x_x
But the club's game day was always after school, so it meant keeping the system in your locker the whole day. Our lockers are not hard to break into.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:59, archived)
# Well we book a Main Lecture hall
And we don't have lockers and some don't have lectures or classes on those days. And they're the ones who bring in their consoles. Games Night is Thurs.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 22:03, archived)
# May I interject here?
Why the hell do your schools have bloody Computer Games clubs?

Whatever happened to Sports clubs?
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 22:04, archived)
# We have plenty sports teams.
They get all the money and support, while the arts and tech departments get fuck all. Don't even get me started.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 22:23, archived)
# Well art clubs should get funding, yes.
However, I do not see why a club should be funded for sitting around playing computer games. It would be like having a television club where you all just sit and watch Neighbours.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 22:40, archived)
# Well with us
We get some funding, but it's been reduced this year.

But quite a few of the people are actually doing Animation or Game Design as their courses.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 22:41, archived)
# nonsence, that's fine art
you just need to be able to talk pretentious, it's the standard language,UH is pretty good, worth a look next week at the degree show.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:48, archived)
# True that.
Especially in Group Tutorials.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:53, archived)
# ah, but
st martin's is pretentious even in comparison to other pretentious stuff
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:42, archived)
# Hahahahah
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:45, archived)
# True that.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:46, archived)
# In fairness though quibble is fairly pretentious anyway.
So I can only presume if he is calling them pretentious they must talk bollocks in their sleep.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:45, archived)
# Hahahah
oh, okay. x]

# Why don't you go and do a proper degree?
LOL!
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:29, archived)
# None of them interest me :*(
I only think about doing arts.

The only other thing I'd possibly want to go into would be something like computer repair.

I've already had some experience in computer repair as an IT Junior and it is interesting.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:32, archived)
# Oooh looks like you should have no probs!
I just finished putting together a portfolio today..... suffice to say, it has about 12 pages to it, and is shite, but I suppose I've got a year to work on it before uni :P

(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:31, archived)
# nice one
is this what they said they wanted in the prospectus?
only ask because used to have a thing with one of my old tutors who always slated formulaic portfolios, and i read this by chance the other day.
www.herts.ac.uk/courses/schools-of-study/art-and-design/yourportfolio.cfm

rather good stuff you have there btw.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:33, archived)
# Well I've just finished a course at LCC for foundation year.
And I e-mailed my tutor earlier on with examples of the new stuff I did, and he said it was all ok and I just needed to present it a bit better by spending ££££etc, on buying plastic folders and arranging it neatly.

As I have no rulers really I used playing cards to measure everything out.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:37, archived)
# although presentation is important
she was always more interested in content and seeing self motivated stuff that the students had done rather than bog standard national curriculum gcse art class stuff, like i said i think you're on to winner

also just noticed you're applying to stay where you are, you can't fail.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:41, archived)
# Yup.
Though I'm not including my latest project as it was a good end but a crap sketchbook.

Thanks for liking my stuff :) I'm just still worried though.

I was going to include some items which were entirely personal, but one of my tutors said I needn't bother.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:44, archived)
# is that needn't bother because they're not up to par
or you're a shoe in anyway so don't go to any more effort.

btw, i haven't touched my crayons since i graduated in 2000, such a waste of a remarkable talent but it was a right laugh.
(, Mon 1 Jun 2009, 21:51, archived)

Uni is just fucking around for a few years making friends who you can get jobs off the rich parents of for the years to come. Kind of like Facebook but with meeting people.

That stuff is easily good enough to get in, have fun :)
