EDIT: this post has had an "I like this click". I think Anjem Choudhury is a secret b3tan. Also the BBC have altered their report. The original article said in the headline and text that it was a debate about blasphemy. Now that has been changed to free speech. I suppose the BBC doesn't want to be seen to be explicitly implying that religious types are the problem here.

it's the 21st century, if you genuinely believe there is an invisible person in the sky who doesn't like gays or pictures being drawn of them, you should be sectioned.

All the other religions are fair game, just not Islam. I think we can all agree that's the sensible and reasonable policy.

in some countries. So Jews and Muslims. Oh, and Catholics and Protestants in places like Northern Ireland. Not a criminal offence but possibly a terminal one. Like Moaists and Bhud... oh forget it. Religion is shit.

There are laws about not celebrating the nazis or denying the holocaust etc, but I think you can get away with saying Yahweh doesn't exist or Moses is a cunt without any fear of prosecution or a religious death sentence.

Freedom of speech n all that. Its not ok to draw outrageous pictures, common sense needs to prevail but only the clever people get that. :)
*not saying im clever*

It may not be ok to draw outrageous pictures, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal, or make you subject to vigilante attacks. Saying sick and obnoxious things on Twitter is not ok. But unless it's an incitement to commit acts of violence or other crimes it should not be a police matter. However the police are spending more and more time investigating and charging Twitter trolls. It's pathetic.

But the HMRC only prosecuted one (of @ 10,000 ) Swedish HSBC customer who avoided paying £1,000s of income tax
And the BBC is about to get even greater powers than HMRC

Don't give them a motherfucking inch.

B3ta is all about outrageous pictures. We pick on anyone and everyone. My most infamous picture on here is in extraordinary bad taste. Are you saying we should only take the piss out of your designated targets?

I think we can poke fun at anyone. As long as we can take the verbal backlash that might ensue. I worked for years with disabled people, you wouldn't believe the gallows humour I witnessed.
2nd point. Poking fun at religion is far more easy to justify, because it is so obviously bollocks. The koran for instance, is the written word of god, as told to Mohammed. Slight problem, Mohammed was illiterate. Why god picked him is a mystery. So he told his mates, who told their mates and eventually the News Of The World serialised it in very accurate Sunday specials as they still do to this day......
And the same goes for the rest. The Sunday Sport existed as a legitimate publication. It broke no laws. But I think we can agree was complete bollocks.
I reserve the right to take the piss out of the Sunday Sport as much as I take the piss out of the Bible.

if you are upset at someone offering the opinion that your imaginary friend does not exist you could always show conclusive scientific proof of existence..............
this is how holocaust deniers are shown to be fools,so it does work!

They never seem to get outraged by stuff.

in that their faith inspires and engenders so much hatred, violence, homophobia, misogyny etc.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 18:29, Reply)

which causes all those problems.
You know, like saying ALL muslims support terrorism, without any evidence to back that up. That kind of thing.
Football seems to have a problem with hatred, violence, homophobia, misogyny etc too.
If you want more jokes and less political correctness about muslims, then what do you think we should do about the rise in hate crime against them? Ultimately, when people are worried about offending muslims, that's what they are most worried about.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 18:42, Reply)

has conducted extensive polls all over the world asking Muslims about their attitudes to apostasy, women's right, homosexuality, rule of law etc etc. The results are presented country by country. It makes for shocking and uncomfortable reading and reveals extremely prevalent views held by Muslims the world over. I urge you to look it up. It is hard data. The whole 'everything is fine, there are just a few nutters with extreme views that just happen to subscribe to this faith' cant is just trite wishful thinking.

But part of their grand plan is to destroy Mecca.
Because it ain't pure.
They already smashed a lot of it.
It's a cultural genocide only comparable to the one they would commit if they weren't timid daddy money tabbies.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:15, Reply)

they have proper smashed up destroyed loads of centuries old stuff.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:19, Reply)

you would think some of those places would be sacred to the faith, i'm sure they are to the wider Islamic world, which must really suck given this lot are demolishing them
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:20, Reply)

Salafists are Nihilists.
Absolute nihilists.
Only the absence of humans, including themselves, and everything they have ever created can be truly pure.
Think Khmer Rouges but worse. Much worse.
Because they have a long term grand plan.
And we are all it.
Without our heads.

I think if you surveyed any random section of society, religious or otherwise, you'd be shocked how many racists, homophobes and general fuck heads you turn up.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:08, Reply)

The thing that most struck me about was it failed to poll what non Muslims in each country thought of the same issues, making it completely useless as a piece of research to see if Islam is the cause of their views.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:22, Reply)

given that all the questions directly or indirectly related to Islam, and that most of the surveys were conducted in countries with an overwhelming muslim majority, I'm not sure why they would question non Muslims. It was explicitly and overtly research into views held by Muslims mainly in the muslim world.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:29, Reply)

argument that Islam is somehow different to other religions, then it would be relevant to compare data.
I suspect the Christian attitude to homosexuality wouldn't be particularly liberal, especially in places like Uganda.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 20:11, Reply)

But unless you have a regional baseline to compare it with (a cultural norm), you cannot point to any particular opinion and blame Islamic influence for it.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 20:35, Reply)

most people's attitudes to those subjects - we seem to be an increasingly right wing society and I live in a liberal bubble.
Big difference between having an opinion and acting on it, too.

Human beings are shit, by far the worst species on the planet. We could be the best. You're a part of the problem. Quit being a part of the fucking problem.

I am part of the problem of islamic extremism. I'm very sorry.

There's probably a glossary or a handy schematics in the back pages.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:10, Reply)

and the sense to see that the problem is somewhat more specific than just "humans are cunts", but this is problematic for those who want to pretend that there is no problem.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:23, Reply)

Please lift this misty veil from our eyes
Your argument is "X is the problem" and if someone disagrees then you think they are saying there is no problem.
I agree there is a problem, and I think you are part of it.
( , Sat 14 Feb 2015, 19:28, Reply)

which is going to make tackling that problem a bit tricky as long as oil prices fuel our economies, and that oil wealth from Saudi Arabia is going overseas spreading the good word of Wahhabism, turning relatively normal people into psychotic nutters
