My only point is that we're not really in much of a position to affect superiority (not that garold was, I'm sure) because the direction of travel is depressing here too.

I'd prefer to live in the country where one kid dies from measles than the one where a good chunk literally can't afford food (or medical treatment)

But low vaccine uptake results in a failure of herd immunity and a much higher infection rate. If vaccines guaranteed protection that would be fine, but they don't. It also seems reasonable to assume that higher infection rates would result in higher mutation rates and faster evolution of vaccine-resistant strains.
