I'm posting this purely 'cos they put my Skug kitteh destroying Tokyo GIF in there front and centre, but all the way thru I was shouting 'GIF WITH A 'G', FOR GRAPHICS, NOT JRAPHICS!'
Also they've been around for 20 effing years what's this 'birth' thing about!? Been there, did that... :S

Someone at Unisys was trying to justify their paycheck.
The soft g sound was dreamed up by someone in marketing who was trying to create a cute mnemonic. Since the G in 'graphics' is a hard one, I've dismissed the soft pronunciation as someone trying to be cute.
