This is a normal post Fucking hell.
That could have so easily been a parody for terribly designed smart home products.

This is a normal post "smart"
I was given a NEST to try out. We turned off the "intelligence" after two weeks and just use it like any other thermostat now. Fucking useless thing.

This is a normal post It’s a fucking BULB!
Smart bulbs are a dim idea in the first place, doubly so when they’re this poorly designed.

Who the hell is going to retain the packaging?

This is a normal post We recently installed smart lighting, and it's actually rather good!
We have it set up so that all the lights turn off when we leave the house.
We've got motion sensors in the upstairs and downstairs hall that turn on the hallway lights when movement is detected once the ambient light level drops beyond a certain point.
The upstairs light turns on when our doorbell detects movement on our driveway, and the downstairs light turns on 5 seconds after the doorbell is pressed.
The living room lights automatically dim when we begin watching a film, and brighten once the film ends.

A great deal of it is just for showing off, but it's definitely a QoL improvement.

Something mine does on a monthly basis.

This is a normal post No idea, I've got a rather snazzy third party router which has been hugely reliable for the past three or so years.
I'd assume they do the same thing as they do after a power outage, default to their most recent 'on' state. They're all controlled by a central local hub, so we avoid all the nonsense featured in the video.

This is a normal post Philips Hue for the lighting.
Ring Doorbell, Samsung motion sensors and a Samsung Smartthings hub to make everything play nicely together. It's a bit of a faff getting everything set up but once you figure out what should be controlling what it's all relatively simple.

This is a normal post LIFX ones seem to work well
Plus they have an API, so if you are handy with coding you can get them to alert you to all kinds of things. Obviously not much use when you just want to turn the lights on and off, but if you want to know when things are about to happen or someone is at the door, they work pretty well.

The big downside? No internet and you are stuffed for flashy effects, but they still work as normal lights.
