This is a link post why windows 8 sucked
“Hidden features, reduced discoverability, cognitive overhead from dual environments, and reduced power from a single-window UI and low information density. Too bad.”

I used win 8 a lot on a work machine and after spending 5 mins removing the metro interface I found it very useable.
Win10 is also very stable even in the preview builds and is well worth taking up the free offer to get a licence key.
All you have to do is sign up for the Windows Insider program and you get a free key to use forever.

I also use Win10 and Mint on a really old laptop and think its great that both these modern OS's can work so well on old machines.

On the other hand I fucking hate anything made by apple and point blank refuse to use or support any of their over priced fisher price toys.

Sent from an Samsung s2 that is 4 years old and runs Lollipop which blows my workmates apple 5 out of the water at most tasks, even in battery life - never replaced the battery and it lasts twice as long as the apple 5.

This is a normal post ^ ^ all of this.
Windows 8 I immediately prefered to 7 speed wise.
And windows 10 is working great here, has been for ages.

This is a normal post Much agreed on Mint.
Easy as hell to use (got my mum who is in her 70s using it), rock solidly stable and a joy to use.

This is a normal post re 'over priced fisher price toys.'
I have to use Apple products at/for work - I have an iPhone and an iPad. Both are exactly as described - over priced fisher price toys.

I started work at this place just after the iphone came out and this HR woman handed me a brand new iphone and I put it back in her hand and told her I wouldnt be needing it and didnt want it.
LOL the look on her face was amazing!
In the end the iphone was as predicted totally useless for use at that company anyway, just a blingy gift to give to the staff.

Signed up for the Windows 10 key. Anything you'd recommend removing, like in 8, or does it run well straight from the off?

Some good tips there to customise the start menu and desktop - yes windows allows you to do this!! amazing isnt it!! but hey what could be possibly wrong with the apple UI - it just works;) lols

This is a normal post Thank you

Still awaiting download, but interested to see what it's like. Like many others, I'm too familiar with their older systems so would like the interface to be similar :o)

This is a normal post The addition of Direct X 12 is going to get me to switch.
Though there's some squabbling at the moment if the upgrade is going to remain free or not.

This is a normal post I thought the accepting of automatic updates was for the beta?
Anyway i'm waiting until it's been fully released and all my favourite games are working on it.

This is a normal post Moved from XP64 to Win8 on my main workstation about 18 months ago
There's a few annoyances - having to futz about in the registry to completely get rid of UAC (the setting in control panel, helpfully labelled "Never Notify", still leaves UAC enabled and requiring elevation under some circumstances). It's also still picky about using UNC paths for some stuff like documents, particularly when you have a non-Windows host at the other end - but that was the case under Win 7 as well.

Once Metro / Charms were kicked off in favour of Classic Shell, it behaves fairly reasonably. It's also bloody stable.

Used 2k3 kernel. Very low uptake on that one. You are one of the few.

This is a normal post Bit of a shit article tbh
Power users think Win8 is rather fine ackchewly, they being the type to take 5 minutes to install free Classic Menu and be left with a super fast reliable OS
