Let's See How Fast They Delete This
Dear Mods.
A few weeks ago I posted this in the Famous People I Hate QOTW. Got a few laughs and, when Thursday rolled round, I checked the Best Of page and it seemed like I'd won. I was first. The top. Numero uno...
Then, mysteriously, I suddenly wasn't. That post just vanished from the "best of" page. (But if you click the link you'll see that the page it comes from is actually the "best of" - it just doesn't show up when you look at the actual "best of" page) Confused? I am.
Now the b3ta mods didn't see fit to tell me they were doing this. They didn't gaz or email me. They just hid the post and hoped nobody would notice.
Now I find this rich because they claim that they got rid of /all due to vote-rigging. It was unfair as some people were using /all to manipulate the votes so that they won the QOTW. After all, making the "best of" page should truly reflect the number of votes each post gets.
Yeah. Right.
Some come on Mods. Tell me, and the people who voted for me, why you saw fit to disqualify that post? And on what grounds? And why you didn't tell anyone?
Censorship on B3ta. Who'd have thought it....
Cheers
It's Thursday and the start of a new QOTW. A lot of people will have read this before you get round to deleting it. Your credibility is at stake
edit: Rob's given me an explanation that I'm happy with. The post in question wasn't about famous people (it was about me and SpankyHanky) which was why it was removed from the "best of" page. Case closed. Move along now - nothing to see here....

True
To be honest, I don't give much of a fuck. That's why I didn't bother saying anything, on any of the boards, until now.
But when given a good feed line, and this QOTW seemed apt, I couldn't resist.

Reminds me of the time I
entered this into the "Movie Letter Switch" challenge. Was the most popular all week, but once the challenge closed, it disappeared altogether. Very bizarre.

Can't Argue With That
But I can argue that QOTW "best of" page, and the popular pages on other the boards are supposed to reflect the number of B3ta members who clicked "I like this".
At least, that's the way everyone thinks it works. And, if you check the FAQ, that's what that says as well.

Similar things have happened to me.
I've posted stories to QOTW and come the close, my post is exactly where I left it. Nowhere near the 'best' page.
Of course, this might be because I'm not very funny and nobody would click 'I like this' to anything I've previously posted.

The votes I seem to get have no relationship with the amount of effort I've put into a post
I've also had stuff on the best page that's rather shite, but that's mainly because it's been a crap qotw and barely anyone has managed to get votes. I know the mods fiddle around a bit, but I don't believe it's been with my posts... I'm not important/popular enough to be a problem ^_^
Also, surely the best thing to do in Legless' case would have been to leave the post, but exempt it from a newsletter mention because it's an in-joke?

Yes, it was a bit weird
I was thrilled to come second (so to speak) and surprised to be 'promoted' to first. It's a bit like when your team wins because the ref disallowed a goal against you in the final minute.
You're still pleased to have won, but can't help feeling the a draw might have been more just.
On the other hand....IN YOUR FACE LEGLESS - HA HA HA!!!

Yeah, I spotted that at the time
figured it was because (and this isn’t meant as a dig) having a “local celebrity’s” pre-emptive parody of his critics in the number 1 spot was just a bit too ironic.
That said, if people voted for it etc.

The b3ta Ultimate
Is to be news-lettered. Winning the QOTW is nice, but the gold is making the newsletter. I've had lots of stories in the past coming in the top three but not making the newsletter at all. That's because a lot of them are just too long to fit in.
And, being fair, I've had stories that didn't make the top 3 getting newslettered anyway. Swings and roundabouts.
But fucking with the results on QOTW seems a bit shifty.
Cheers

it's like this
I removed it because it was just bickering about the QOTW and not a proper answer to the question. Which was - as you know - about famous people.
We've got off topic. This exist for you to put whatever rubbish you want into it.
The question of the week is for ON TOPIC stuff. About the question.
Now whenever I mod stuff people go "it's not fair you didn't mod X Y or Z" and that's because I didn't see X Y or Z. We mod the stuff we notice.
If we didn't mod the question of the week, then week after week self-referential crap would win. Or stuff that says "vote for me!"
We do this to make the best of readable and interesting to third parties, so new people join and the whole site doesn't die, which it would if we closed it to new comers.

So your post about you got removed from 'best of'
not deleted, mind - merely not shown in a fairly insignificant list. This has riled you so much that you feel the need to post a link back to it, and create a follow-up post about how life isn't fair, blah blah blah, mods are conspiring against your genius, blah blah blah. Only it's ok now, because the site's owner has given you an explanation you 'can accept' - which was very magnanimous, I thought.
All this, over a 'best of' list, on the internet. Not exactly a Nobel Prize, is it?
My two-year-old daughter throws more relevent and less-childish hissy fits than this - and her egocentrism can be easily explained by the fact she's, y'know, *two years old*. And a girl.

Dammit, and now I can't fix it for a bit so that people see what I mean.

I would suggest that having got 70 replies to this post, you are now something of a celebrity.
That should mean you are now eligible for re-inclusion on the popular posts page for the original post.
Next week, you could post a third post on the new QOTW, asking for the first post that you complained about in the second post to be reincluded.
