I can say in all honesty
I was perfectly happy being single. It helped me to become comfortable with myself and my own company. Maybe it's my age but I am simply not prepared to compromise any more. I've realised that if the person is right then you don't actually need to compromise very much at all.

I spent years gritting my teeth whilst being subjected to soap operas and Big fucking Brother etc, or going on 'sun holidays' that went against everything I stand for, and fuck that shit, never again.

Not a bit of it.
The free festivals of the 80s were absolutely fucking incredible. And the travellers' field outside Glastonbury (when they still had such a thing) was wonderful. Seeing Hawkwind at 6am as the sun rose is one of my fondest, if somewhat rose/acid-tinted memories of that magical era.
