no he rang her to apologise.
I don't think it's a big deal at all and this new evidence must be bad to warrant a sacking. It's a non story really.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:46, 2 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I don't think it's a non-story
It's a fucking horrible thing to do.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:48, Reply)
Plus Grey is shit so I'm all for him going for whatever reason.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:50, Reply)
I don't agree, Man at work is sexist shocker!
What's the story there?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:50, Reply)
So you're saying that because people are sexist all the time it's OK?

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:51, Reply)
No I'm saying it's not worthy of being in the news and until this new evidence comes to ligjht
it's no reason to sack a bloke. Women are just as sexist as men but because we're funnier than you, you lot tend to get upset.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:53, Reply)
You really are a twat
please don't try to defend my gender with this crap.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:55, Reply)
your gender? I'm not defending he-shes!

hahaha

It's as worthy, if not more so
Than half the other crap that gets reported. I have no sympathy for the guy, in fact I fucking LOVE that he got sacked for it.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:56, Reply)
I'm the same
But I think he's a cunt, so I'm a bit biased.

Who, Turdy Pires?
*screenshots and sends to The Media*
*Awaits "Emo Tranny Suspended from Internet for Insulting Mentally Handicapped Food Aficionado" headlines.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:04, Reply)
I disagree, it should have been in the news.
The fact that we have evidence that even the so-called professionals at a football match are unable to accept someone who is clearly capable of their job based purely on their gender means that we can move forward and start making changes to rectify the situation. You can't just ignore a problem 'because everyone does it'.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:57, Reply)
Course you can, that's how shit gets done.
That's where you birds fall down, worrying all the time. Man up, get on with it and worry about yourself before getting all menstrual and agitated.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:00, Reply)
Please tell me you are actively trying to wind her up
rather than genuinely believing the arse-gravy you are coming out with?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:02, Reply)
Of course he is.
Fortunately, I've dealt with enough 'OMG! Let's try wind the feminist up!' trolls to ignore this half-arsed shite.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:05, Reply)
No I'm deadly serious.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:06, Reply)
Yeah, you're fucking hilarious.
Anyway. I know what he did to get fired now. See below.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:03, Reply)
Just read it, I would need to see it and the tone, mannerisms etc before making a judgement call.
No doubt he is a twat but he was good at his job.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:08, Reply)
I put the video on it now

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:09, Reply)
fucking hell it's not that bad. No worse than most old men anyway!
I'm not excusing it but I maintain firing him is an over reaction.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:12, Reply)
That it's winding you and so many others up is making me grin from ear to ear
This is the best thing to happen to football since England got slaughtered in the last world cup, then failed to beat Russia and Bumfuck Nowhere to get the next world cup hostings.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:16, Reply)
I'm not wound up, what would make you think I was?
I don't really care that much but I don't think the punishment fits the crime.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:20, Reply)
well, I thought the blatant wind-up was funny

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:05, Reply)
Shut up and put the tea on, eh love?

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:56, Reply)
All sexism is abhorrent
Especially those Diet Coke adverts.
The Yorkie ones can stay.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:54, Reply)
I get fucked off at the McCoys one where the guy answers the question about ballet right in the pub, and gets kicked out.
It's well fucking known general knowledge!

EDIT: Also, you forgot Sheila's Wheels.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:57, Reply)
Shut up DF.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:00, Reply)
If it was something really obscure, then fine.
But it's general knowledge, and if you can't guess it when it's in front of you, you're clearly a bit retarded.

Also, went out with a dancer for a year
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:02, Reply)
What, be a bit of a sexist arsehole?
No, it's not. But to be fired for it? Those remarks were made in private, they were never intended to be heard by or hurt those being discussed.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:54, Reply)
The stuff about the lino isn't that bad and Karen Brady is a cunt.
Grey has been consistently good at his job so what if he is a dick? It's not his fault they weren't taken off air. Have you never walked out of earshot of someone and called them a cunt? In essence it's the same.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:57, Reply)
I don't know what he said, nor do I care
What I read is "Rich twat makes sexist comment while at work, gets found out and reprimanded. Is later sacked for something similar, apparently".
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:02, Reply)
he hasn't been sacked for the comments.
Apparently something happened in Dec which has led to his sacking and the sexism just confirmed it I believe. I don't care that he's rich or that he is a twat. He did something most other men do and is being nailed because some tech goon fucked his job up. It's a bit of a strong reaction, however I reserve the right to change my mind depending on what this new evidence is.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:04, Reply)
Sexual Harassment, or some shit like that.
Either way, long as I don't have to hear the complete prick anymore, it's fine by me.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:07, Reply)
he will be on ESPN by February.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:08, Reply)
No decent pubs near me get ESPN anymore, they get foreign channels instead. Means I don't have to hear him either.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:10, Reply)
The majority of my male friends wouldn't dream of making comments like what he's alleged to have said
So from this sample, no, 'most other men' would not do that.
Mostly I like this news because it results in a Rich Football Cunt being fired.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:10, Reply)
Well you must be friends with paragons of virtue (or dull cunts) cause you put any group of men
together (bar monks, and gays) and sexism will most likely happen. I'm not saying it's right but ffs it's not cancer or aids or anything just chill out and have a word.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:15, Reply)
Firstly, well, no. You obviously have some charming mates
And secondly, even if there is the odd bit of "banter" in a pub, that's not at work, is it? Sky can't be seen to tolerate that in a work environment.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:18, Reply)
why not?

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
Well, glossing over the morality of discrimination as that doesn't seem to bother you,
it's illegal under EU and UK employment law.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:26, Reply)
yep and we all adhere to the law rigidly don't we.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:30, Reply)
A fine argument
except you can't blithely ignore international law when you're broadcasting those breaches across the world.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:33, Reply)
when you've been caught on tape and camera
it's pretty fucking hard not to, no?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:33, Reply)
Reading the story on the Guardian website
And a number of people on there have mentioned daytime magazine show 'Loose Women' as a show that seems to thrive on sexism. (I've not seen Loose Women, but I understand the premise of the the show is a gaggle of women whinging about men).

Is that acceptable, but a private conversation isn't?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:37, Reply)
Nobody could defend Loose Women.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:41, Reply)
But should the presenters all be joining Andy Gray at JobClub?
Or are the comments made on that, acceptable as it is within the context of the show?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:42, Reply)
Personally, I think they should.
I think it's a vile programme mainly because of this. The fact that TV bosses at a different channel haven't sacked them but Grey has been sacked doesn't mean he shouldn't have been.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:45, Reply)
no, it's not acceptable.
but it is more likely to be accepted because institutional sexism on the part of women towards men is not and has never been a problem in society, but vice versa is.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:52, Reply)
And that's ok is it?
or is the reason it's acceptable because men understand it means fuck all and don't go mental about it.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:59, Reply)
Did you seriously just say that?
Like, really?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:06, Reply)
He was caught ON CAMERA, TWICE.
If you got caught on camera stealing something twice, would you turn around and say "Oh, it's OK. Everyone does it."?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:34, Reply)
barry would!
But in all seriousness, no of course not. But in this particular case I think the punishment is extreme. Ideally sexism and racism and most other ism's wouldn't exist but they do and not every case is black and white (no pun intended). I am not trying to upset or annoy anyone, nor am I condoning what Andy Gray did. In my opinion he has been rashly dismissed and it probably warrants a suspension, then a review following an investigation.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:40, Reply)
jism?

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:41, Reply)
especially jism!
do you get what I mean or am I talking double dutch?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:42, Reply)
You might have a point if he'd done it once
But the fact that he's done it repeatedly (in the space of a month!) shows he doesn't think it's wrong and won't change. Do you think no one had a quiet word with him about the December thing?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:43, Reply)
I doubt it pal I really do.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:46, Reply)
Look. The man's an unprofessional, sexist pig. Why should he be allowed to keep his job?
Let's argue it that way, shall we?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:51, Reply)
Complete bullshit
Sure, a couple of my friends might make the odd comment that's a little sexist, but most of my friends aren't sexist.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
again I doubt it, but we don't know each others friend and speculation will never end well.
I trust you understood the point I was trying to make.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:22, Reply)
I'm convinced you must be trolling.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:24, Reply)
I'm calling bullshit on that
Not everyone's as fucking backwards as your mates.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
I refer you to my reply to Labs above.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:23, Reply)
And I refer you to my response to you below

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:24, Reply)
Firstly, most other men don't do that.
Secondly, that's a disciplinary offence in ANY job. Anyone working in that high profile a public role has, and rightly should have, a "no strike" rule on shit like this.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:14, Reply)
So in a society where things like twitter and facebook and the media are aiming at bringing
celebrities to a more human level and encourage interaction we turn on a bloke who makes sexist comments, and because he is on telly he must be fired? Bollocks mate. He is a lad and sportsman of course he is going to be a sexist twat, he's probably racist too but he shouldn't lose his job over it. The media attention is punishment enough, people now know he is a twunt.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:19, Reply)
So it'd be ok for him to be racist too?

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:21, Reply)
of course not, I didn't say that. I don't think anybody would put sexism and racism on par with each other.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:25, Reply)
Right, now you're definitely trolling.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:27, Reply)
I'm absolutely calling trolling here
Nobody is that fucking retarded.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:29, Reply)
If it is, it's a troll of epic effort.
the ubertroll.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:34, Reply)
He made sexist comments AT WORK twice.
Are you saying that if you were talking to someone at work and twice made obscene and sexist comments about your colleagues, you'd expect to keep your job?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:22, Reply)
Why "of course he is going to be a sexist twat?"
I think this is the point that you really aren't fucking getting. You accept it, therefore you condone it. You condone it, therefore it doesn't change. And it needs to change.

If you really think what him and Keys said is acceptable banter, I'd keep those thoughts strongly to yourself, or else good luck holding down a teaching job anywhere.

Out of interest, do you also thing Ron Atkinson shouldn't have been sacked for calling Desailly "a fucking lazy thick nigger" ? because it's exactly the same argument.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:23, Reply)
and hate leads to the darkside? what? you are making some massive leaps there and we
are both generalising to the point that neither of us are ever going to agree. I don't think Andy Gray should have been fired for sexism. The media frenzy around what, in my opinion, isn't that a big a deal has played a major part in his dismissal. RE big Ron, yes he should have been fired because racism is much worse than sexism.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:28, Reply)
OK, because I still can't quite believe you aren't trolling, I'll rise to it
racism is exactly the same as sexism. It's discrimination on the grounds of a physical characteristic of a human being that is intrinsically and historically linked to oppression of those with that physical characteristic.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:32, Reply)
so every case of alleged racism and sexism is black and white
and the intentions and motivations of the individual accused of saying said 'racist/sexist' comment can be determined from the comment alone?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:34, Reply)
Of course they can!

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:36, Reply)
bollocks

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:41, Reply)
Actually, context is very key, in my opinion, which is something that is debateable and not fact.
And I believe the context of the above video, he was out of order, she clearly wasn't part of the joke in any way, and he was clearly belittling her.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:47, Reply)
OK, I'll accept that some things need to be taken in context.
However, some things ARE clearly self-explanatory, and that's where Grey falls.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:52, Reply)
how do you know? do you know the man personally?
or have you just seen two clips and read a couple of articles?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:56, Reply)
I've seen the incidents as they happened - in context
He's got previous for being a disgusting sexist - context

Do I need to fucking stalk him to prove it? No. You don't look at people like Katie Price and think "Oh, I bet she's shy and retiring at home", do you? No, you judge what you've seen her do in public and what she's previously done in public.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:01, Reply)
It's people
'KNOWING' they are right that cause half the problems in the world anyway. A little discrestion (no idea on spelling) and patience is always better than making a rash decision.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:14, Reply)
I didn't fucking fire him, his bosses did. I'm sure they've met him.

(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:22, Reply)
context would demonstrate whether they were joking or serious
neither changes the fact that they should be sacked, because it's a fucking stupid thing to make a joke over.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:55, Reply)
I'm not sure what you think you're saying here
What do the intentions and motivations have to do with anything? racism is racism. Sexism is sexism.

there are two alternatives. It was an ill-judged series of jokes that they must have spent ages planning as a double act to hone so well, in which case they should be sacked for being fucking idiots with no sense.

Or, they really do believe that a female linesman can't do the job properly, in which case they are institutionally sexist and exactly as bad as any racist. And past evidence points strongly to this (see - their commentry on the 1997 or 8 womens FA cup final)

neither scenario is in any way fucking excusable.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:40, Reply)
so when Monty makes racist jokes on here
like the one at the top of the popular page. He is being vitriolic and his comments are verbatim? I think you are trolling now!
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:44, Reply)
What has Monty's poor taste in jokes got to do with it?
Monty isn't a publicly employed figure, he's not made those comments whilst at work and I seriously doubt his behaviour influences the general public
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:49, Reply)
Gray's comment wouldn't have been in the public unless some tech goon
hadn't fucked up. The more you continue this argument the more I'm convinced you're just being beligerent. You know what I mean, I know what you mean, we disagree with each other, what's the big deal? It's not going to effect my evening so why not just leave it now?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:53, Reply)
It was made in the context of his work
it doesn't matter how it was made public, it's relevant.

I'm really not being belligerent, I'm genuinely quite surprised that someone who I previous thought to be quite a reasonable and pleasant chap could be this bigoted. But, absolutely, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Chalk one up to "no matter how much you know, you can always be surprised"
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:00, Reply)
Thanks, enjoy your evening.
I'm off to watch the football with my sexist friends.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 18:04, Reply)
Ok, here we go.....
Well, you know badge, there is a long list of actually funny comedians who use steriotypes to good effect
What about Bernard Manning, gonz?
I think Badge, he only appeals to the thick and the dregs of society, but it's a good point. Personally, I think people taking themselves to seriously can be a bit shit to tell you the truth.
Yeah' Gonz, I know, but what about those who have been instertutionally abused, if someone said "You're a jew so you have a big nose, haha" it would be a bit =/, but if someone said "You're a jew so we're giving the job to someone else", you'd be pissed.
Totally agree, it's the context badger.
Gonz, have you ever felt serious racisim? Do you know what it's like? Imagine if you could get your own back on them.
I have, and most of the time I would like too, but sometimes it's worth picking your battles, badger.
Yes Gonz, and this is one she should pick, it's not in the pub, it's on national TV with entire careers at stake.
Completely agree with you there badge. Just one more thing, has anyone from the weekend told you they like-like me?
Well gonz, I can't awnser that, I wouldn't betray a confidance, but chin up big fella, it's home time.
Ok badge, fair enough, I'll see your reply to this when I get home. L8erz people.

I like this.
Anyway, they've said what he did in December. Video is down the thread.
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 17:09, Reply)
This ^
It says more about the person who released the comments to the press than it does about either presenter who thought they were having a private conversation.

Who'd want to work with people who would stab you in the back like that?
(, Tue 25 Jan 2011, 16:57, Reply)
I thought he didn't, but Keys did?
And it's not a non-story. Have you read the transcript of what they said? Fuck's sake, it's as bad as Ron Atkinsons lovely "nigger" outburst a few years ago. No way should either of them keep their jobs.
