So who's got lots of time off?
And what're you doing with it?

alt: what should I do with mine?
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:10, 111 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I've got 11 days off, which I'm very happy with
Mainly I'm just going to be chilling out, it's what I need to do more of! I'm also attempting to organise a major BBQ for next saturday, start preparation on the thursday morning sort of thing!

Alt: BBQ, bike rides, walks, beach trips, things like that?
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:11, Reply)
i get bored of walking
on my own. Might do sometime, though
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:20, Reply)
well I fucking DON'T
i hate when you lot have holidays it means i'm bored off my fucking face at work

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:17, Reply)

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:17, Reply)
no

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:17, Reply)
are there no bank holidays in your country at all?
I know we criticise america a lot here, but really...no bank holidays!
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:18, Reply)
BANK holidays are for people who work in BANKS.

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:22, Reply)
But if the banks are closed, you can't do any banking. Therefore, everyone benefits.
(They are just national holidays, you guys get lots of them as it is I understand)
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:24, Reply)

national holiday ≠ day off work
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:30, Reply)
Do you have to work over your national holidays?
That sucks if you do. I hope you get the time back to take off when you want.

We get about 8 bank holidays per year, in addition to paid annual leave (usually between 22 and 30 days per year)
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:35, Reply)
for everyone or just for you?

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:35, Reply)
Almost everyone.
It's likely like you'll get sunday off if you're meant to work, but you don't get extra days because Jesus became a zombie.
What sort of workshy peoples are you lot anyway?
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:38, Reply)
The sort whose economy is just as good as yours
without 80 hour weeks and no holidays. Americans are work-mad...
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:41, Reply)
Haha!
I like this.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:41, Reply)
We aren't as bad as the French, they get loads of leave.
This is quite interesting from 2010

I have this 4 day weekend and next 4 day weekend which is fine by me.
You should totally get out there and mingle.

It turns out all my local friends are at a larp event I'm not going to this weekend and everyone else is at the event I'm not going to the weekend after.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:16, Reply)
Then go to the larp events.

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:48, Reply)
perhaps, but I don't know where I could go
that wouldn't just be me looking at stuff somewhere until I get bored and then sitting in a coffee shop reading a book and pretending I'm OK with being there on my own
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:52, Reply)
A castle
or maybe London?
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:56, Reply)
I've seen enough castles
and London is a bit far for a day trip

sorry, I sound a bit awkward here, don't I?
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:59, Reply)
You could go over the bridge and head to Bath for a nice walk.

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:03, Reply)
What sort of things do you like?

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:06, Reply)
ah, I don't know
sorry, I'm just being grumpy. Holidays often end up with me being unreasonably grumpy because I don't have many people around. I should just make some phone calls, there must be someone round here who's not going away
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:13, Reply)
Whereabouts in Wales are you?

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:16, Reply)
Swansea
about 4 hours from EVERYWHERE
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:18, Reply)
You could organise a bash in the Mumbles.
(Lurkers and occasional posters especially welcome)

Mumbles is lovely.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:19, Reply)
I don't think anyone would come to that!
There are hardly any b3tans in Wales, let alone this end of Wales. Mumbles is nice, though, even if it gets a bit mad in summer
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:23, Reply)
You could book a Proclaimers tribute act and they could perfom

I'm doing the 11 days off too
I'm going to be looking for a city centre bachelor pad so I can get out of this shithole I'm currently in. I've got a viewing tomorrow and 3 more on Saturday, going to try and get a couple more and then decide - perhaps even move in before the holiday is over, if I can. Woo!
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:40, Reply)
Woo indeed.
Do you live out in the sticks.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:42, Reply)
It's not that bad
I was referring mainly to the current house which is horribly rundown and needs a skip or two of crap removed from it.

Basically I've broken this home so I'm getting a new one.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:44, Reply)
excting!
looking for new houses is always good. The moving bit is the drag
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:43, Reply)
Tremors on at 9.05 on ITV4.
I haven't seen it for ages. Woo!

If you're not going out Jeff then I recommend this film.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:44, Reply)
I've not see that film in ages.
I might stick it on (I was planning on the pub this evening, but I'm off to a barbie tomorrow with a lunchtime start, if I go out this evening I'll somehow manage to avoid anything but alcohol in a 24 hour period, and I'm trying to be good)
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:46, Reply)
Good lad!
You know it makes sense. I was going to stay off the alcohol till tomorrow but I've opened a bottle so fuck it.
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:49, Reply)
Bottle of cider or a bottle of wine?

(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 20:49, Reply)

It's my holiday and I don't need to get up till 8am.

It's called "being a student".

I've got my old raft down from the allotments (I made it years ago from old glue barrels) and made a couple of modifications. Tomorrow I'm going into town for a barbeque on the meadows complete with rafting and drinking. Yay!

That sounds fantastic.
Will there be photos of the rafting experience
(, Thu 21 Apr 2011, 21:32, Reply)
I think it will probably be unavoidable
The raft is pretty simple but it's easy to transport and take apart and it doesn't weigh very much either.
