Puff pastry lid. Mustard mash. Savoy cabbage stir-fried with garlic. Extra gravy, bottle of robust red.

Malbec?

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:21, Reply)
I'd say a Pinot Noir.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:25, Reply)
The notoriously light red?

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:28, Reply)
He cares not for your sensibilities

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:29, Reply)
Fruity is not always light.
It hasn't got shit loads of tannins which I suppose is the "heavy" measure?
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:38, Reply)
Correct

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:45, Reply)
So true,
You're well fruity - and a fat cunt.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:46, Reply)
You know
you really are an awful person.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:49, Reply)
Hahaha!

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:51, Reply)
Bingo. Chilean or Argie.
My current favourite wine actually.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:25, Reply)
Malbec?
Phillistine.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:26, Reply)
That I am.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:27, Reply)
I have a top drawer
Marlborough Pinot Noir that I am saving for a Monty/Lusty day.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:29, Reply)
try northern californian pinot noir, if you can get your hands on it
russian river area. It's better than a good NZ one, if that is possible...
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:34, Reply)
I wouldn't buy the NZ red normally (obv the white is famous)
But this one (Majestic) is absolutely blinding.

I had a Clos du Bois Zinfandel a few years back
that completely changed my view of Californian wine. Magnificent.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:38, Reply)
I like Cali wine.
The good stuff is really good.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:39, Reply)
I feel like I've stumbled into the Bullingdon club.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:41, Reply)
good wine has been accesible to the masses for many years now

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:44, Reply)
(to the masses in the south)

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:45, Reply)
You say "masses".
You mean "proper-non-beast-of-the-field-types".

De-bags BGB, Bullingdon stylee.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:47, Reply)
It really is. It's incredible how much some of them change hands for.
The tawdry bottom end stuff is fucking rubbish though.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:45, Reply)
Like the Aussie and S African wines.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:46, Reply)
Ernest and Julio Gallo
An oenophile friend of mine refers to them as grape assassins.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:51, Reply)
My ex's grandmother was a cousin of theirs.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:54, Reply)
I've not actually been to the vineyard
but I'm lead to believe some of the high-end stuff they make that barely leaves California is OK.

The problem with good US wine seems to be that you can't export it, the makers aren't interested.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:59, Reply)
Indeed so.
When I go to my father's he has some exquisite bottles. If they can sell all they produce without breaking a sweat why export?
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 15:01, Reply)
no reason to
people generally aren't in any business to spread joy and happiness. Biggest profit with minimum outlay.
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 15:04, Reply)
That's not the reason
I don't think. At least with a lot of the smaller places. You can buy their wines, for instance, online through brokers but they won't ship them outside the US. I asked a couple last time I was over there and they went on about taxation difficulties etc. But they have to deal with taxation differences shipping state-to-state so I'm not sure that makes sense
(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 15:07, Reply)
They are cunts. Maybe it's that.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 15:15, Reply)
indisputably.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 15:20, Reply)
Wholegrain?

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:24, Reply)
For mash, yes,
For dolloping, I favour English or dark French.

(, Thu 11 Aug 2011, 14:30, Reply)

I asked Amberl at Sonisphere and she told me you had to pretend that you were doing an impression of a snake slithering along the floor but without putting your hands down.
