I'm astonished that people are so useless that they can't even sleep without being needy.

but I don't have panic attacks on the train about it.
In fact now that I think about it, I actually don't really know what a panic attack is.

Interestingly the article also says:
" A growing body of evidence supports the idea that those that suffer from panic attacks engage in a passive style of communication or interactions with others"
like doing all your social interaction through a website?

That's a bit of a sweeping statement that. You and I both know mental health issues aren't as clear cut as that.

I haven't suggested that this is true, or that it accounts for all cases of people having panic attacks.
I just pointed out that some people think there might be a correlation between having these things and being an internet shut-in.
The article seems to imply that they normally have a stand-alone clinical source which could be a wide-range of things and concludes "panic attacks are not usually indicative of a mental disorder." so I'm not sure this is a mental health issue really.

especially as you feel you're going to suffocate and quite often you feel like someone else is in your room, like a proper sense of menace. You can't move and you can't talk and you can't do anything except lie there and freak out.

Tell me, as an internet anthropologist, at what point to these "needs" turn you "needy"?

/offtopic is more about people bored at work, trying to alleviate the boredom by sharing their boring lives. It almost works. You have to admit that you find something compelling about it.
