I now have 5 tester pots of paint. And a tape measure (because that's the sort of thing people have when they own a house)
I'm no Gonz, mind

Then again, you know all about light, so you probably know more than them what to do.
Shit! I've just remembered I haven't done today's photo yet. Bugger.

I shoudl probably find out how to do this shit. I just can't decide on a colour yet, and it all depends on how the light looks throughout the day

Assuming two coats, a tester pot contains about the right amount of paint. Then you watch how it looks in different lights and see if you still like it.

I might do patches in two parts of the room where the light falls differently

Usually llining paper, but contact paper would do just as well.

is it like wallpapering before you paint? There is paint there already, kinda pale green
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:20, Reply)
If it's too chipped or cracked, you might want to skim it first. In which case, you'd have to leave it for a couple of weeks afterwards to thoroughly dry.

it's your house - you do what you want. Get stuck straight in!

oh and a shitty border round the top by the ceiling
*that's right isn't it?
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:25, Reply)
And take the border off before you paint, or it'll look weird.

You CAN do it, but carpet cleaning companies charge (comparative) bobbins.
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:31, Reply)
I think it's something I would be shit at

You need to apply equal pressure everywhere and you can't do that without a machine.
Your friendly slum landlord brings you this advice free of charge. Ring a Chem-Dry franchise - they have good guarantees.

I'll call for a quote tomorrow
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:38, Reply)
They're franchises but Chem-Dry have very strict control of franchisees - something like 3 complaints and you're out.
They've never let me down.

I'd try and get all these things done before moving furniture, it'd be wiked

Do what everyone else has said above as well.

ta.
I think I need to get a DIY book, or just watch 24hrs of youtube instruction videos

Use it until you start feeling confident, then throw it away and work off instinct.
It's very easy to fuck up painting a wall but luckily it's also very easy to correct it.

I thought that was quite late compared to people I worked with. I felt well fucking inferior.
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:02, Reply)
I am 35. Does that make you feel better, that I am more inferior?
Owning stuff doesn't make you better, if I'd bought a house earlier I wouldn't have been able to do stuff I've done in the last decade and a half
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:06, Reply)
Just everybody I worked with was younger than me at the time.
I'm a competitive kind of guy.

I'd quite like to see some photos when you get some time, snaps rather than photos.
(, Fri 20 Jan 2012, 20:14, Reply)
but they aren't all that exciting. Perhaps when I've finished my brew I'll post them on fb, maybe even with annotations
