What do you think about this?

From my own experience I have to say I felt no reason to rebel against the musical tastes of my parents, and I feel very grateful to my old man for introducing me to music which remains amongst my favourites to this day. With this in mind I am hoping my kid sees sense and gets into the good stuff, although I am resigned to the fact that she is likely to get into shit kids' pop music at some point, if only to get on with other children.

my parents had dreadful taste.
I was listening to Sepultura at 13 and jungle by 16.

My kids will be free to listen to what they want, but they'll be exposed to Beastie Boys, MBV and Primal Scream from day one.

They will also be vegetarian. If they choose to eat meat when they're older then fair enough.

I hope that my children will learn to appreciate the difference.
It is pointless trying to force them to like specific things, so I expose them to a wide range of varied music and they can make their own choices.
If all goes as it should, then they should at some point discover something that I hate.

When I was a kid I just liked anything that sounded interesting, and both my parents had all sorts.
Over time my taste wandered all over the shop. Sometimes it intersected with theirs, sometimes it didn't.

Though it wasn't till I started genuinely appreciating Steely Dan a few years ago that I knew I'd turned into my dad.

There are mistakes in this post.
Firstly, there is some music I like that I accept isn't very good, but there is no accounting for taste.
Secondly, as with all genres, there is good jazz and bad.
All the jazz that I love is unquestionably good and I can easily identify several different types.
You may not like it and that is fine, but you may not dismiss it as 'crap'.
Finally your numbers are wrong - you divide your third type into two, making a total of four.

We share a couple of interests, but FFS, the man made me listen to The New Seekers, The Carpenters, and other shit like that.
