I saw a mini feature thing on Django Unchained and despite Tarantino* being one of the biggest pricks ever
I want to see it. So that's TWO films in a single year that I think look good.

What do YOU think looks good?

*people like me who are really into 'film' always call actors and directors by their surnames. It's what we do, yeah?
(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 8:41, 195 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
Me.

Ri-ight. OK.

(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 8:53, Reply)
It was reviewed on the radio the other day.
The audience were shocked by the continual use of nigger, or the N word as they kept referring to it as. Tarantino claimed historical accuracy, but I'm sure they used to use terms like jigger-boo, pickerninnie, darkie and sambo back then too.
(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 8:50, Reply)
And 'coon'.
As a boy I always found references to Davy Crockett's 'coonskin cap' hilarious. We made our own fun back then not like these kids today with their 'SNES consoles'.

I went to see some 'film' on Tuesday night.
For added hipster prick status, it wasn't in a cinema but rather in an old church spire that is now a bar.*
It was excellent, so if you are into 'film' I can heartily recommend Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio.
(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 8:52, Reply)
I've read some decent things about that.
I bet's it's not as good as 'Time Bandits' though.

I often do that with Directors, yes.
Not much with actors though.

There are several films I'm looking forward to this year, the new Star Trek being on of them.

Supposedly Django is very good, my housemate managed to get a copy of it. Might watch that later on, actually. I watched The Man with the Iron Fists a couple of weeks back, that was excellent.
(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 9:09, Reply)
I started watching Midnight Express last night.

(, Thu 17 Jan 2013, 9:10, Reply)
That film is relentlessly grim isn't it.

Pretty harsh.
I was going to watch The Road, but wanted something more brutal.

That is Tarantino's greatest skill though, writing long pieces of dialogue that seem almost pointless, but suck you into the characters
See: tipping scene in reservoir dogs, jew hunter and french peasant in Inglorious, gold watch scene Pulp Fiction and the best one Dennis Hopper V Christopher Walken in True Romance
