It's progress and may allow us to continue living in the manner that we are accustomed for longer

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:03, Reply)

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:03, Reply)
i do think the protesters could have used the word "fracking" better in their banners,
they went with "no fracking in the uk" i mean come on guys
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:04, Reply)

Yeah but there is no viable alternatives to the current fossil fuel energy production, aside from maybe more nuclear.
If you say "wind power" I may have to slap you xx
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:06, Reply)
yeh and there will remain no alternatives for as long as we can put off having to deal with reality

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:07, Reply)
Necessity is the mother of invention
However, those projects need time fracking will help give us that time

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:30, Reply)
(the reality may be something along the lines of the fact that we simply cant be living the way we do,
use of personal cars for the tiniest thing, you know, that sort of thing,
not just having to find alternative energy sources)
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:09, Reply)
I agree...but how the hell do you persuade people to change their lifestyles drastically enough to achieve the drop in energy uses
It will take a generation or two and until then...
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:11, Reply)
i don't think it will be anywhere near that long before the price of petrol becomes seriously prohibitive
it is already affecting plenty of people enough to have them start changing their driving habits

edit by plenty i mean, some, not exactly loads, but the price of petrol keeps goin up yo, and its only gonna be exponential
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 7:13, Reply)
It was eighty odd pence when I started driving, £1:42 the other day : o

But I do remember enjoying it.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:28, Reply)
Ditto
I think I was about 12 when I saw it
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:34, Reply)
Pretty sure that neither I nor anyone else here is qualified to comment on it.
But I guess we should all adopt a standpoint based on what others expect of us.
With that in mind I'd like to put forward the view that all progress is counterproductive and suggest that not enough has been done to harness the potential energy from, oh I dunno, the methane gas that cows produce or summat.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:06, Reply)
I'm hoping for a bit if soylent green action.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:09, Reply)
I'm qualified to comment
In as much as that I don't even know what it is. Something to do with petrol, right?

Earlier this week an American on my facebook was howling with outrage about "gas" being $4/gallon
I did some conversion and pointed out that it's about $10/gallon here. Mind. Blown.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:23, Reply)
Tax innit
then VAT on the tax, so it multiplies any increase.
Without tax a litre would be less than half what it is now.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:25, Reply)
so about $4/gallon then?

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:28, Reply)
Ish
US do tax as well, but nowhere near as much.

my views on fracking are that a new thread is kind of needed by no
so I DONE ONE just for you lot
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 9:39, Reply)
I view fracking as I view any mining.
There's something under the ground we want get it if it's worth it and try not to totally fuck the surrounding area up.

Also if we change all coal fired power stations to gas we'll do pretty well in terms of reducing CO2.
