2014
What's on the cards for you?

I'm off to Dublin this year, The Lake District n June and have a Wedding to be best man at in July so far.

Alt. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25574176

Are you behind this 'Life for a life' thing, or do you believe in differing methods of justice to suit the crime?
I can see this becoming an overcrowding problem.
I'm not impartial to the death penalty.

Also, Cameron's views seem to shift with the tide with this and immigration.

AltAlt. How's work going?

2014 is the year of the garden for me
Got fuckloads to do in it.

I need to get mine cleared. It's a proper overgrowth :/
Once it's done I will keep ontop of it.

I was thinking much the same about my arse hair.

(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:20, Reply)
Is there really a practical solution to that though?

(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:24, Reply)
I bought an all-body hair grooming solution at the weekend.
Face, back, nuts, it's got attachments for everything!

Mine will be, not that she's currently aware.

We'll be going to Florence at some point, I think.
Dunno. I don't think all that far ahead.

Cammo's a bare-faced prick. I am rabidly opposed to the death penalty, there should always be room for redemption. On the other hand, I do think that 30 years for a pre-meditated, cold-blooded murder is too lenient.

Altalt: well shit, I'm sick as a dog.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:18, Reply)
I think there needs to be harsher sentencing
There's no fear with those who commit crimes because the punishment isn't severe.

The death penalty should still be an option but used under very extreme circumstances. Keeping the people alive for life is a drain on resources.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:20, Reply)
I am mostly opposed to it
The idea of killing anyone is abhorrent.

But there are hundreds of prisoners for whom "redemption" is too naive/never going to happen. These people aren't ever going to be able to live in society without harming other people. And for the really bad ones, I might make an exception. Look at Ian Brady - how much has it cost to keep him alive, whe he doesn't even want to be here?!

They should just set them free somewhere like Bootle or Redcar.....
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:24, Reply)
or Milton Keynes.

(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 15:25, Reply)
The Internet says it has cost £14,000,000 to keep Ian Brady alive so far
A man who butchered small children and taped it.

This can't be right either... I'm glad it's not my decision

Number 1: You are saying that killing people is wrong and then killing people that break that rule.
I cannot be the only one to have a problem with that inherent hypocrisy.

Number 2: Killing a person removes any hope that they may be rehabilitated.

Number 3: Wrongful conviction. Further evidence has occasionally been found to clear the name of a person convicted for murder. Killing them makes this miscarriage of justice completely irreversible.

Number 4: Killing is wrong, you guys.

I don't think I'd like to meet the person that could take a truly objective view on child torture and murder

you work in law, you must appreciate taking a dispassionate view of things.

We never even got along on here. Maybe he wanted some restaurant recommendations?

I'm all for a bit of hypocrisy.
Well we need harsher sentencing then or punishments.
Off with their... hands?

We should ship em all off like we did to Australia.
Look what has happened! It's became a great country with humour not dissimilar to our own.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:15, Reply)
I am of the opinion that the law should be for protecting the public, not for exacting revenge.
Lock them away for life if there's enough risk to the public, but there should always be room for rehabilitation.

Even if it's just giving a serial killer enough mental treatment to stop him from shanking fellow inmates.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:18, Reply)
Harsher sentencing has very little to do with crime rates
please see USA with the stupid 3 strike rule, increasing the length of sentences will not change the rate of conviction or reoffending. If you look the countries with the lowest recidivism rates are the Scandinavian ones where (by UK standards) the sentences are lower but with better rehab.

Altalt: I think on the whole I preferred it when I was getting up later, staying at home all day, eating and drinking what I liked when I liked.
If I could somehow find a way to make that pay the same as working for a living...
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:11, Reply)
If I had a work from home job I'd be a right lazy shit.
The other half is self employed and crams all his weeks work into a Sunday
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:12, Reply)
Yeah, I don't want to work from home
A bit like Roy Wood, I wish it could be the Christmas holidays every day.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:21, Reply)
I worked from home for 2 weeks and basically did fuck all
When the company I am now with moved prems BT fucked up the phone lines so a lot of folks worked from home. I knew I wouldn't do anything so used my mobile (tethered to laptop) in the empty offices.
(, Thu 2 Jan 2014, 16:25, Reply)
So you went to the empty offices to work?
I still would have done fuck all.

I barely work in a full office!
