Would you take a 6 month contract in Dubai for £10k a month tax free + accomodation + flights provided.
If it meant not being able to see your child more often than one weekend in four?

I've just had a call asking me.

Again? Same people?
I might go, but it would kill me
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:33, Reply)
Different company. I need the money, but I don't think I could be apart from micro.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:35, Reply)
As I said last time, this is a very important time in your relationship with micro
Which is already compromised by her living at her mums; long term which option will have the better effect on your family?
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:36, Reply)
I know, however I have to look to the long term as well as the short term and a quick injection of cash like that would pay for the first few years of her education.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:39, Reply)
Like I said, it's all in the balance
Money to support micro in the future
Building a strong relationship with her at this important time
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:41, Reply)
I have a strong relationship with her - I see her a lot more than a lot of fathers do with their kids.
It would be about maintaining the relationship - if I could get back every other weekend it would be just about doable.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:43, Reply)
Sorry, didn't mean to suggest anything in my post
I would be sort tempted if I was you and in your situation. The key would be to be as drug a las possible whilst out there as well
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:48, Reply)
See below - I've had an idea...

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:49, Reply)
that 60k will make up for the 57k your missus lost down the back of the sofa

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:34, Reply)
That's now been accounted for.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:35, Reply)
phew!

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:38, Reply)
also, hi Spimf!

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:35, Reply)
Yeah, it didn't go well for him out there did it.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:35, Reply)
no

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:36, Reply)
That would be my worry
also I quite like alcohol which I understand the muslamics are not keen on.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:36, Reply)
Spimf relocated out there on a permanent basis - sold his house, moved his family etc. I wouldn't be doing any of that.
Also - is booze that important to you?
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:37, Reply)
its my life

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:03, Reply)

(, Thu 27 Feb 2014, 14:16, Reply)
Would you still be posting here? If not, then definitely go :)

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:36, Reply)
Do the sandwogs have internet access?

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:36, Reply)
They have probably banned it because of the porn and alcohol advertisements or summink

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:38, Reply)
I would go. Money is amazing and with things like Skype you can still "see" your kid in between?
I have no paternal urges though so...

It's half a year. Not that long
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:37, Reply)
Probably not.
Would be a very strange situation to be in.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:38, Reply)
Last time you asked a similar question you ended up losing your wife.
But I suspect the money is too much of a draw for you, so go for it.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:39, Reply)
are muzzer prozzies on par with polish ones?

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:40, Reply)
They can be quite tricky to unwrap

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:41, Reply)
I've earned more per month after tax here in the past (sadly not all the time). The time I asked before my marriage had already gone to shit.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:40, Reply)
honestly it would depend on how much I needed the money
60k is a decent lump but:

how would it affect your contract prospects back in the UK?
what would the work entail i.e. would you be down to the grind everyday as I could imagine that would get very tiresome on your own?
Do you have other options closer to home that while not returning the same amount would keep it ticking over?
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:41, Reply)
I've got things on the go here - quite dull stuff though that doesn't challenge me much.
I've already got quite a lot of international experience already so wouldn't make much of a positive difference to my CV.

The work sounds really interesting.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:44, Reply)
in that case mate
go for it, I know I am not a lover of children but she will get over it... you will be able to get back often enough to maintain the relationship and lets be honest kids are fucking stupid and have no real concept of time :)
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:46, Reply)
Also flying back every other weekend would make you fucked every time you saw micro

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:48, Reply)
It's only a 4 hour time difference, so that would be easily manageable.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:49, Reply)
How long is the flight though?
Twice in one weekend?
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:49, Reply)
7 hours - but I could fly overnight and sleep.
So, fly out on Thursday evening arriving Friday morning in the UK.
Fly out overnight on Saturday night, arriving to go to work on Sunday morning - the UAE weekend is Friday & Saturday.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:52, Reply)
If you think you can do it then go for it
Sounds like hard work
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:52, Reply)
I may have a possible solution if my ex would agree...
Pay for the nanny to fly out with micro once a month in between me coming back to the UK.

If she'll agree to that I think I will do it.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:48, Reply)
From what you have said before
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT NOT BEING USED AS A TOOL TO BEAT YOU WITH
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:52, Reply)
Yeah. I know.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:53, Reply)
Knowing how well you and the ex get on, this shouldn't be an issue at all.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:59, Reply)
£10k is not a great deal of money for foreign contracting but then I suppose it depends what you
do.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:50, Reply)
It's about average for a short term contract in what I do.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:50, Reply)
International dwarfogram
Pretty good money over there for that sort of thing
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:51, Reply)
Yeah
They are short in that department
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:52, Reply)
he had better not make a Burka of himself

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:53, Reply)
He can infidel his tax returns too

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:54, Reply)
This thread is like flogging a dead horse, I might just go and get stoned instead

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:55, Reply)
that would be very Dubiaous

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:01, Reply)
U Are Extremely bent

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:02, Reply)
I think you'd feel it a lot worse than micro - kids are so much more adaptable
and you'd be doing it for her. I think you need to look at the pluses - how much would you earn here in the same period. do you fancy being abroad for 6 months. do you like the idea of Dubai. etc
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 13:57, Reply)
My industry is pretty quiet over here at the moment...

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:01, Reply)
Everyone has already been fired

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:02, Reply)
No, I would not.
NEW THREAD!!!!
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:03, Reply)
Praise Jewsus

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 14:04, Reply)
A month after the contract finishes, your kid won't remember you were away.
Kids are stupid and have shit memories.

I don't have a kid, so I'd do it. I have no frame of reference to decide whether I'd go post kid. I understand they make you produce some hormone that turns you into a devoted lover of noisy, smelly, badly behaved shit farms.
