Evening All
And how was your day?

(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 17:52, 131 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
My day was good
And I am of to my mums now for dinner! Wooooo!

Hope you had a good day Mrs L and I will catch you later :)

Well, I've had better days
busy, busy, busy at work, then home to two sick kiddies ..... oh joy.

How are you, Mrs L, this fine evening?

Evenings all
Going back to the topic of piercing (I believe you asked how big my holes are TGB) my ears are both 8mm. Might go up to 10mm sometime as the only thing I think looks any good at 8mm are tunnels with a decent sized flange.

At 10mm I should be able to get some more varied stuff that I actually like the look of.

Not bad thank you WW
I went to visit a school today that I am applying to. They all seemed really nice and I had a chat with the Deputy Head who ended the conversation with, 'well I guess I'll see you next week as I'm doing the interviews'. So that sounds hopeful.

I've got enough work booked for next month that I don't need to worry.

I'm working tomorrow though. I really enjoy it but part of me can't be bothered to get up in the morning.

My day
is ongoing- it's 1:00 here, and I've just gotten back from lunch.

I need to go raise hell with Payroll- they seem to have cocked up my paycheck.

Sounds positive MrsL
Teaching is something I just couldn't do ... not unless they bring back the cane! Seriously, though, my primary age daughter has never had a bad teacher yet, thank god. My eldest has had a couple of right head cases, but hey, them's the breaks.

I used to tell her it was good practice for adult life ie you can't get along with everyone.

Captain V - I'm a squeamish coward when it comes to piercings. I only have my ears done (one tiny hole in each) but I did let my eldest have her belly button done.

TRL - damn time differences, eh? I get up at half five to start work at seven. That's probably when you go to bed!
(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 18:09, Reply)
@TWW
To be honest I was a bit squeemish about getting my ears pierced but stretching them was fine - it's not painful at all.

Very squeemish about getting my tongue done (if I do indeed go through with it) but I know I'll love it once it's healed.

I'm a bit odd about piercings. Some parts of the human body are best left alone!

Stig, sounds like a rather yummy dinner. We had sausage and mash.

darling - good to "see" you. Sounds good, muchly good. The Witchlets aren't awfully well, there's a nasty flu type bug going the rounds. They are getting over it, but I'm used to having two healthy kids so it's been a bit trying ...

Loon - how long does it take to get back to normal sleeping patterns once you're home. My friend lives in Houston and always says it's easier travelling west (and travelling pissed!)

Edit: bill, sounds good. I threw up with nerves before starting the job I'm in, and arrived at work looking like death warmed up. Great first impression!

If I fed my kids cauliflower cheese they'd look at me like I was trying to poison them. It's one of those things they just hate ... so I don't bother making it.

It took me
one day to readjust to the US. Seriously. Monday I was tired from all the travel, but yesterday I felt fine, and this morning I was back to normal in all ways.

Going east to west is easy, but west to east takes a lot of time.

When I was there this time
it took me two days to start adjusting- but even after nine days I never really felt sleepy at 11:00 over there. I had to force it. And had BGB not woken me up in the mornings, I would have lost half the day...

EDIT: that damned deer wanted my scotch! I had to distract her with peanuts to keep her nose out of my glass. I once had one come up to me and lick my face! Dozy little buggers...

where's the sweets? Eh? Eh?

I have cheese scones if anyone's peckish? Fresh from the oven in Gregg's the bakers

Loon, the deer was a lush? Is nothing sacred? My uncle had a farm when I was a kid, and he kept geese, one of whom was a raging dipso. If it smelled booze in the garden, it attacked whomever was holding said booze until they dropped the glass. Drunk geese are funny!

Deer like booze.
Most animals do, actually.

A guy in the area where I used to live would poach geese by soaking a bushel of corn in cheap whiskey and spreading it out on the frozen lake. They'd eat it, get hammered and be unable to escape as he went through and grabbed the ones he wanted.

The deer up there are extremely tame- I can often go up to one and rub it behind the ears. They have very coarse fur, like a donkey.

coarse fur? That's such a disappointment. I'll never look at Bambi again in quite the same way ... I always imagined they'd be soft, like big dogs. And me a country kid too.

I will be in a dress, it's true!
Couldn't be anything less, under the circumstances!
(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 19:17, Reply)
Yup, very coarse.
Most animal fur is rough to the touch. Horses have fairly soft fur for something that big, but it's still scratchy. Bears have fur like a hairbrush. Deer have fur like a layer of dry pine needles. Chipmunks have fur about as coarse as a horse's.

Squirrels, on the other hand, are quite soft, almost like a rabbit.
(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 19:20, Reply)
I knew
that horses are pretty tough coated, and cows. I also know that sheep are only fluffy when very, very small (but stupid all their lives).

I've never really considered the non-domestic animals though...

BTW that's a great way to catch geese. Beats picking buckshot out before you eat it!

Edit: ancrenne, my cat is soft and fluffy. Very soft, in fact. Like a warm toy. Our rabbit is pretty cuddly too, but has a nasty habit of peeing on us!
(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 19:22, Reply)
Most animals
are less cuddly and soft than they look.

The exception is the Big Black Hissy Thing, who is actually incredibly soft and snuggly when she wants to be.

help, I'm running a fever
of 38.98 degrees C. I feel so unbeliveably ill that I'm sure I've redefined suffering. I've been nursing my bloke through this illness for the past 3 days and now he's at his house 10 miles away still feeling like death warmed up, and I'm shivering and shaking on my sofa hoping for unconsciousness, and neither of us has the strength to drive. The only reason I'm currently able to type is because my latest dose of paracetamol has kicked in.

Yes, I'm a whinge, but I'm a sick whinge and misery loves company. I hate being ill alone.

BGB's cats

The Big Black Hissy Thing, thankfully, does not drool. But she does love to snuggle up under my chin while I sleep...

Ginger Infusion
If this is what I had a couple of weeks ago it's a fucker, hope you get well soon...Get someone to go to the supermarket and get you a big lump of fresh ginger. Break off one of the 'lobes' and slice as finely as you can be bothered to. Stop for a minute to blow your nose and have a bit of a cough before boiling the kettle. Dump the ginger into the biggest mug you've got (or a cafitiere coffee plunger 'tingum if there's one lying about) and pour over boiling water. Leave to steep for a good five minutes and add honey if you want to. Made me feel a bit better last week when I had it.

When I'm ill
I like to snuggle into bed with the TV remote and watch The Princess Bride, or the LOTR movies or Sherlock Holmes. Kitties are a source of great comfort as well.

I also drink a lot of orange juice mixed with seltzer water.
(, Wed 1 Oct 2008, 19:42, Reply)
Hello....
Never tried with dried, might be a bit too peppery to be honest....you get this amazing warm feeling from it though as it boosts your circulation (apparently). The other thing I always do is make a curry (usually from a jar as I'm too lazy when ill to go from scratch) and add heroic amounts of extra garlic and fresh chilli. All to do with yer mucous membranes releasing more antibacterial type snotty goodness so I'm told.

Seltzer=fizzy water.
Also called club soda over here. But yes, just unflavored carbonated water. The orange juice gives sugars and vitamin C, the carbonation cuts through the phlegm in your throat and makes you feel like you can swallow again. And lots of fluids are always good.

Sticky throat balm....
I had a tickly cough, equal quantities of unsalted butter and brown sugar (large hard crystal type, not the soft kind) mashed together and sucked off a teaspoon will work quite well if you're camping in the middle of nowhere with a child with a tickly cough and no access to an all night chemist. What's wrong with that ffs?!?

Sounds (and is) disgusting, but it worked.

Sounds like "Spa water syndrome"
They used to prescribe it for everything and a joke theory is it used to work because it tasted so rancid that the body got better quickly so it didn't have to endure any more of it!

You said you didn't care for the show
As they don't appear that much in relation to the whole thing it seemed like you would be watching a majority of stuff you didn't care for. Thus stemmed the logic.

And as for the rude thing... well pot calling the kettle black a little bit maybe? :p

What you're saying still makes no sense. If Sylar and Noah's storyline is the only thing entertaining on the show, I should be able to take the rough with the smooth, if I deem it worthy of my time. But that's not to say I can't criticise the weakness of the rest of the show!

I like alcohol, but because it gives me a headache in the morning, I shouldn't drink it, right? Wrong! I just enjoy the good times and accept the hangover, doesn't mean I can't criticise it!

Maybe, we shouldn't talk? You clearly don't like me, so, have fun.
