QOTD - Films You've Cried At
On saturday night, I was stuck in the house, with bugger all to do, and spotted "100 Greatest Tearjerkers" on e4, I've since found out it was a repeat.
It was somewhat of a suprise to discover I've been wrong for years, in the 4 films have made me cry, not 3!
They are -
Armageddon
The Green Mile
The Lion King (Worryingly, I'd already seen it about 20 times)
Forrest Gump
Now, I can watch the first 3 now with a mild indifference during the scenes that bothered me before, but the scene in Forrest Gump where he's talking to his wife's grave kills me every time.
B3tans, what films have made you cry?
EDIT: - Here's the list pages -

Edward Scissorhands, but I didn't actually cry
defensive story: I was at uni, sat with a load of friends in their lounge.
I was unbelievably stoned at the time which is what led to the sadness. It is a sad film anyway, but due to the fact that I was so stoned even the look on his face was making me sad.
I ended up leaving about halfway through because otherwise I know I would've started sobbing!

Never
I've never cried because of a film, I did have to choke back the tear at the endof a TV series though.

I cried when I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I knew I could never look that good in a basque and stockings.

Of course you could, don't be silly, but none of us could ever have looked that good in THE CRYSTAL DOME.

(with apologies to someone funnier than me,Jimmy Carr perhaps actually I think it was Gervais)
I heard that Schindler's list was a real box of tissues movie, I don't know why, I watched it and only wanked once.

b3tamax
think it was Jimmy Carr.
in part because I remember seeing it, and in part because it was funny and therefore not Gervais.
the fat, annoying moron.
edit: Hollyoaks makes me cry, but only because it is the worst pile of shit ever created.
I don't want to go too far here, but the Holocaust was less of an offence to humanity than Hollyoaks is.

The one that really got me
was a rather obscure one- it was a very literal film adaptation of a James Joyce story, namely "The Dead". It was John Huston's last film, and starred his daughter Angelica.
The story is an oddity- a fairly long tale of a Christmas gathering of family in which you get to meet all the members of the family and get a feel for their personalities, but other than the party there's nothing that really happens- until the end, when a smallish event causes the wife of the narrator (Angelica) to start weeping, and she tells her husband why she wept. He then turns to the window to look out at a snowstorm and starts a voice-over soliloquy that takes the entire film and ties it all together so that it suddenly makes sense, then slams you all at once.
As I said, this is a very faithful adaptation of the original story. I highly recommend reading it, if you can't find the film.
In any case, I watched it through, puzzled but patient, until that soliloquy- then burst into tears.
Beautiful.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
I cried like a baby...
Because it cost me about £50 to watch that steaming pile of elephant wank in the cinema.
it was like watching the last money-sponging nail being hammered into the coffin of everything I loved as a child...
*sniffs*
Oh, but really - Watership down, Dead Poets Society...and that one with Hugh Grant where he's an 80s singer with Drew Whatserface...

Rainman
Near the end when he has to choose whether to live with Charlie or go back to the home.
NOt so much crying, more a lump in the throat.
*edit*
Looking at the list, Kes and Killing Fields brought a lump too.
E.T is number one! wtf??

Although I cultivate a weary, deeply cynical exterior
I am something of a sentimental at heart
A crowd of fifteen or so of us went to see Ghost at the cinema back in 1990, which had me wiping the tears from my eyes as the credits rolled. I was sixteen. Likewise, I think I blubbed at Patch Adams too.
The shame...

I really struggled with that film, especially what happened at the end.

One other
What Dreams May Come. When he finds his wife in hell and finds that it's a hell of her own making and that he can't reach her... well, it tears me up pretty badly.
Sappy film, maybe, but damn it works...

Too many to mention
Cos I'm a wuss and proud of it. I'm with himjim above on 'Life is Beautiful' and would add 'Shadowlands' (the bit in the attic), 'Dumbo' when he goes to visit him mum in the clink, and 'It's a Wonderful Life' (told you I was a softie). Tons of others too numerous to mention, oh yes, had a good old cry on Friday night when we watched 'For the Boys' a great film starring Bette Midler and James Caan as a song 'n' dance comedy double act - great songs too.
Our sprog used to burst into floods of tears whenever we watched 'The Land Before Time'...happy days.
p.s. TRL: was that based on the James Joyce short story? Well worth a read - it's in 'Dubliners'

@Che
Yup, that's the one. I had read the story many years before, so I knew roughly how it went- but seeing it acted was altogether different. It had a huge wallop for me as all at once I understood exactly what he was saying, and it hit me in an unexpectedly powerful way.
I like that collection, but that story is the true gem.
