I have ironing to do, I have to make lunches for the boy and I, I have to pack for working in the pub tomorrow and I have to have a shave (please don't hang me for that!)

What I can actually see getting done is me getting home, eating, having some wine and passing out!

A bit tired, but not too bad at all.

I found out that you can still buy Chemex coffee makers new, so I had to buy one for myself. It makes the best damn coffee I've had! I'm going to get rid of my regular one and just use the Chemex one instead from now on...

They loved it. I did a huge joint, and 12 yorkies, and was expecting (looking forward) to eat the leftovers for dinner tonight. None left.
I'll just have to make a chicken curry instead.

I'm doing well.
www.chemexcoffeemaker.com/ is their official site. I've bought myself one of the 30 oz ones with a glass handle, and it makes the smoothest coffee I've tasted. Much nicer than a French press or a drip coffee maker.

Google for Peter Schlumbohm and read about him- he sounds like he was someone I would have been good friends with. Gotta love a guy who could announce that with a Chemex coffee maker "even a moron can make good coffee."

@Loon,
that's a nice looking coffee maker. I bought one of those Senseo one-cup makers. I love it, makes really really good coffee.
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 18:25, Reply)
I think they do.
The thing that makes it so good is that it doesn't heat the coffee, so it can't get burnt, and it uses a very thick filter that catches all of the sediments. That, and you just wash the flask to get rid of any old oils from the coffee. No parts to burn out or get clogged, nowhere for the old coffee to accumulate.

I have one of the ones with the glass handle, so it can go in the dishwasher.

A most good evening to you all
I once played at a wedding gig where a bat found its way in. It flew round the room terrorising most of the guests, while the hotel staff made a futile attempt to catch it.

Eventually the poor beast managed to find its way out the door. I found it all hugely entertaining.

Firstly, Batman, if your phone is 3g it'll be fast, and expensive if you haven't got a bolt-on

And yes. Now, i don't know how much of a hole Hull is, but Luton is worse. Trust.

I'm with O2 so I phoned them earlier and explained that I was planing on using my phone as a modem connected to my lappers so could I get a bolt on to make it cheaper. Apparently it would cost £35 a month to do so. Ethelred said he was getting one for about £7.50 but the dude on the phone had no idea what I was talking about.
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 19:51, Reply)
Luton v Hull
Can't say I know either of them, as I've only driven through Luton getting to and from the airport, and I've never been to Hull.

But I seem to remember both came first in consecutive editions of the Britain's Crap Towns book. So I suspect they're on a par.

And if they're worse than places like Swindon or Cumbernauld they must be something!
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 19:51, Reply)
Heh batman
I used to have that as my text message ringtone.

Yes, I'm sad. And I make all my own ringtones.

I think I'll shut up now :)

Edit: Batman - here's the skinny. I'm on o2 as well. I get unlimited internet on my phone for 7.50 a month (apparently limited to fair use of 200meg, was brought in just before the iPhone was brought out) so I think that's what he might have been talking about.

But 200meg on a 3g connection, bearing in mind your penchant for pornogravy, might not keep you in wankbank material, ifyougetwhatI'msaying?

Luton is the place of my birth and as such I may give it Hell.

If you like crack and Cash converters then go to Luton. It's a filthy, shit ridden, plague infested, run down, dump of a town - Luton is the type of place where Pete Doherty could be heralded as a model citizen.

I fully maintain that the best thing to be done with the hovel is 17 tonnes of Napalm dropped from 700M up.

Have spent another day reading documentation. I was finally given a guided tour of the office.

Have spent the evening exploring the area, and at lunch, visited an estate agent or two. Didn't find anything so will look further afield tomorrow.

I don't know if I would call it lurgi
I think instead I shall class it as dying all over. My inners seem to be refusing to digest food, and my head is sore and unconcentrating.

It just took me 2 minutes to remember the word digest.

It's really annoying, and I don't know why. I dunno if I might have eaten a mushroom by accident in the sauce in my dinner*, but it doesn't feel good.

Unfortunately the only solution is to sleep it off, and I'm not tired. The headache is a new one to it though.

*I'm allergic to mushrooms.

Credit cards are brilliant!
Because I always pay my bill off before the interest accrues, I pick up cashback and points for free.

So far, I've got a nice Shirt, £50 and a flight to LA (which I'm cashing in for Novemeber).
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 20:40, Reply)
Yeah, but they can track you
And see what you spend your money on.

I've never had to buy anything that I couldn't pay cash for.
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 20:41, Reply)
I'm with Stig on that one
I use my credit cards all the time as a convenient payment method, then pay it off every month.

This doesn't work though if you're either careless with money, skint, or just thick. Not that I'm suggesting any of those apply to Kaol, mind.

Edit - You've never hired a car then, Kaol?
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 20:43, Reply)
For all that stuff I've got out of them....

@mrslivinginabin - jobs at schools
have the schools in your area had 1/2 term yet. IIRC teachers have to hand in their notice by half term so that they can take a new job at the start of the spring term.

SO it may not be all bad, there is usually a flurry of vacancies after the holidays.

does you LEA have a weekly publication of jobs (ours does)

Now is the time to cultivate your contacts at schools you've done supply at and see if anything is coming up

Primary or Secondary?

Cheating Rabbit
I am in East Anglia. I have QTS but not PGCE so I don't think I am qualified to teach outside the UK. I am looking for my first job so I haven't passed NQT year yet.

Hope that's to your liking Mista :)

Kaol, were you sick?

Actually, I have to admit my ignorance. What IS rubbing alcohol? Is it like surgical spirit?

Well...

Of shoes and ships and sealing wax and cabbages and bins
QTS is what is important! How you got there is less so (unless you want the golden hello, which only applies to PGCE) If you did a degree course that ends with QTS, IMHO you are better off than a "traditional" degree and PGCE, because you will have covered much more in the way of pedagogic techniques and had more experience in a class than the PGCEs who will have had a 6 month crash course... It means you hit the ground running!

I can't help much with East Anglia (Norwich at a guess) cos I am in the cruel North.

Please pass me by with the rubbing alcohol.

I've got quite enough homebrew to drink. If I run out of that; I can hit the port

Rubbing Alcohol tastes lovely with a bit of raw liver.

I also had to get lunch stuffs (bread, filling etc) from Tesco, got to the checkout and said "Hopefully that's £10.50 give or take a few pence!" the woman looked at me really strangely when the total was £10.47 - does no one add up as they go any more!?

I find this interesting. others may not.

but I don't not like football either.

I am football-ambivalent.

But I like humourously complicated things being sung well. Especially after my Animaniacs-fest the other day.
