Torrents

Somehow I've wiped loads of music from my Ipod and my laptop. When I say me I mean Steve Jobs and his shitty shity products.

Anyway I would like to replace them with, whisper it, free torrented music. But I have no idea which site is best or how to use them.

Little help?

Fanks!

easily
www.demonoid.com (limited registration, requires an invite) or www.piratebay.org for torrents. (Registration is not particularly necessary for this one)

use utorrent, www.utorrent.com to download. Small (250kb), and fast and incredibly efficient (on first run, select highest speed settings in the window that opens, and click OK)

search, click on the link, and open the file. the rest is easy

Yep
www.thepiratebay.org is a good one. look for torrents which have lots of seeds and make sure to read the comments on each torrent to check it won't give you a virus

BE WARNED!
Don't download software (that is, executables - zips containing music are fine) from torrent unless, as stated above, the comments state it's virus-free and/or you've got some hardcore antivirus software.

Lots of torrent warez are loaded with spyware and viruses. Speaking from experience.

Trying not to be alarmist about it but it's worth stating :)

Occasionally
bitsoup.org allow new users to sign up. It is the main site I use as it's fast and it's got quite rigid mods which mean the content is always what it claims to be. Also, if you want to download software it will be virus free as it's an instant ban for the uploader.

If you can't get in here then sign up to demonoid, it's good and has a lot of content.

I find that...
Sometimes Piratebay and Mininova don't cater to my rock and roll tastes so isohunt.com is also worth a shot...

Do these invite based torrent sites require me to do lots of uploading? As I'm scared of uploading in case the feds get me :(

Yeah
They require you to keep close to a 1:1 ratio for uploading/downloading. I wouldn't worry though as the feds only seem to be after the people that run the sites or folk that upload pre-release copies of albums etc.

I've downloaded/uploaded 200gb ish on bitsoup and have had no probs.

*touches wood*

^^
Scared of uploading? So you take the files from other people but don't seed them back? You understand how p2p works dont you? You know it relies on people uploading, also known as sharing (filesharing). That is how you are getting it yourself - because people are uploading. If you are concerned about sharing files in a p2p context (torrents, where you upload as well as download) then dont do it - but that means either upload or DOWNLOAD.
