Come and tell all about your cock, or otherwise.

Heh
Morning K. Nice effort there :)

How's you?

Second!
Morning all, are we all good this morning, I am.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:24, Reply)
Good morning chaps
I'm glad it's Friday. It seems to have been a very long week. I'll be making the most of the weekend, I think.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:26, Reply)
I'll be great til two
but I'm wearing a shirt, and that can only mean one of three things.

And I'm not due in court, or going to a wedding.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:27, Reply)
Is it
that you've run out of t-shirts?

Or you're driving this afternoon?

Or an important meeting?
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:29, Reply)
Hmmm no.
The other thing.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:31, Reply)
Oh
Is it a funeral then? That's crap. I was at one yesterday.

You're going to a funeral?

If you are sorry, and condolences.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:34, Reply)
Ah y'know
It's pretty rubbish, but it'll do me good to go.

It's a bit odd though - I'm feeling more for this chap than I did for my grandma or cousin *shrugs*

Anyway, yeah. That's at two, so I can still be a thundering cock til then :)
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:43, Reply)
Hope the funeral goes as well as a funeral can no3l
And morning to you all. I've got a "communications meeting" this afternoon. I can't say I've ever had a meeting where communication didn't take place... Something tells me the people running the meeting are either a bit thick or couldn’t be arsed to think of something more sensible to call it.

Still, it’s an hour or so out of my day and will bring me a bit closer to my holiday =]
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:46, Reply)
I was going to open with a blistering salvo
of insults. But given what Number 31 is doing I will restrict myself to a simple Good Morning.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:47, Reply)
Morning V
If the meeting organisers can't even be arsed to think of a decent title for the meeting, it's going to be a waste of time, I reckon.

Like most meetings, in my experience.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:48, Reply)
Morning V & Al
I've been im many meeting that didn't involve communication V, far to many.

Good restraint there Al.
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:51, Reply)
Morning all...
Sorry to hear you're off to a funeral No31... hope it goes well for you. I'm just thanking my lucky stars I have managed to get through this week without killing anyone!
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:55, Reply)
I think the most likely reason
Is that it's some sort of meaningless business lingo that the person(s) organising the meeting have been using for so long that they don't consider the complete lack of useful meaning.

Small meetings (approx' 5 people) seem to be fairly worthwhile around here. Tiny ones (2 people) are most effective though. This is an en mass thing from one of the directors to tell us about last year's performance and the plans and expectations for the year ahead. It's going to be a snorefest.

:edit: @Dok What were you doing if you weren't communicating? Was this "meeting" simply an excuse to lock yourselves in a room and have a covert orgy?
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 8:56, Reply)

People were talking but not really saying anything!

I've just used my Super Tech Powers to fix a PC here, it wouldn't boot, I gave it a kick! It seems to be working now.

If 500gb is enough and you don't have SATA
I'd stick with an IDE drive. The reduced bandwidth of the usb interface would put me off although I can't say I've any experience using external hard drives.

I use both USB and Firewire external drive, and I've never had any problems with the data transfer rates, but it would depend on what you were planning on doing with it.

Data is fine, video, not so good, you need a fast drive for that.

Morning all!
himjim - a USB drive should be fine attached to a server streaming things across the network, provided it's 7200rpm USB 2.0 (or preferably Firewire, as this is faster in real world situations)...

PATA (IDE) should also be fine, but I'd stick to larger numbers of smaller drives as Dok says. I've never seen a PATA drive larger than 500GB either.

You can get PCI SATA cards for about 15 quid though, which should also allow you to do RAID and such. Probably the best option, SATA drives are pretty cheap these days.

Or you could go for one of the four drive Buffalo NAS, they're pretty decent, although more expensive than rolling your own, particularly if you've already got a computer. It won't need to be very fast or anything.

I've got plans for a RAID server but need the funds to do it :(

(across various drives I have about 7TB of data, you lot are amateurs :P)

My new test bed machine has arrived today, so I'm playing with Windows 7 all day. Beats working!
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 11:06, Reply)
7TB :O
Good lord. I've been meaning to do this for ages.

It's lack of storage that's been keeping me from adding to it!

Bloody tempted to get a 30gb solid state drive to boot 7 from. You got any opinions on it yet?
(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 11:10, Reply)
Nope, it's still installing!
SSD are so expensive to buy into. And 30GB will barely be big enough for 7, it needs 16GB just for the OS, then you've got the swap file, and whatever software you want to install...

I thought 12GB for Vista Home Premium & Office 2k7 was bloated!

Edit: I actually haven't read anything much bad about 7, hence wanting to try it (and making my boss pay for a dedicated machine, although he doesn't know that). I can't stand Vista, I only use XP, but 7 is supposed to be much less annoying. Apparently they've got rid of Classic view mode though :(

I do a lot of audio work and some video stuff, hence the amounts of storage I use. One five minute song in 24bit/96kHz multitrack with loads of alternate takes etc can easily be 10GB. And that's before you get to my ridiculously large music & porn collections...!

Not liking the lack of classic Start Menu and the gay Apple rip off dock/taskbar thingy, but definitely spotted a few improvements over Vista so far.

Childrens television in the 1970s
in the 1970s, back when the world was only just invented, a magical box in the corner of the living began displaying images and sounds designed to sync together and entertain people between the ages of 4 and 10. These moving pictures and strange sound entranced a young K2k6 to the point that he was unable to function properly in the real world unless his groin was frantically humping the screen.

The End.

I always used to wonder why the donkey had such an odd name - Eeyore.

It was only once I got a bit older I realised that the southern English pronunciation of it is ee-aw. Whereas -ore and -aw are very distinct sounds in my accent!

For the same reason, I remember watching a kids' telly programme which invited the viewers to pick out words which rhymed with each other.

On of the pairs was 'door' and 'saw'. Doesn't work hereabouts!

I find this sort of thing quite interesting. Sorry if I'm boring you.

(, Fri 16 Jan 2009, 12:40, Reply)
@V
Door is a bit like doh-urr, but all as one syllable, and with the oh sound made at the front of the mouth and the r heavily pronounced.

Likewise, the phrase 'law and order' would be pronounced phonetically in Scots, without adding in extra rs where they don't exist and missing them when they do - 'lawr-an-aw-dah' in Southern British English.
