Morning all. I drank a bottle of wine last night and then didn't open the second bottle. I'm practically teetotal. How about you?
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 7:10, 237 replies, latest was 16 years ago)

of Talisker last night to get over the shock of having spent so much on a new speaker system for my living room.
Didn't get to bed until 2am, which is generally accepted to be a bad idea when I'm back at work at 6.30.

I'm good thanks. Have discovered I really do have "too many" books as my book shelf collapsed last night!!
Have spent all this afternoon after school cleaning up and finding a new home for my books (the top of my chest of drawers).
I'm all sads now. I loved that shelf. And my wall is ruined now too.....
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 7:22, Reply)

a half bottle of vodka with my mate while we jammed out guitar tunes. I feel fine this morning, although I've made a conscious decision to stop drinking for a while, maybe a fortnight, to try and clear my head.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 7:28, Reply)

I love it.
It hates me.
I still love it. Its kind of sad. Give me a choice I will always always pick vodka.

I haven't had a drink in ages. But I will be rectifying that later tonight.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 8:24, Reply)

I'm not happy about it as I didn't sign myself up. Got an email around a little while ago saying I was signed up to go to peterboring for it rather than taking the obvious option of doing it in my office. Fuck that!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 8:25, Reply)

The day I turn 18 I am going to do a pub crawl.
I love alcohol.
EDIT: Vipros - that sucks!! also - why does everyone hate Peterborough in the UK? we have a peterborough here too and it's awesome - best surf you'll find for miles.

it's pointless
our head office is there which is ridiculous because there are no motorways that go there, nor an airport.
it's hard to get to, and not worth it when you do.
Where is the Peterborough in Oz VC?
I'm always interested in where the surf is! ;-)
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 8:44, Reply)

is of course by train, as it's on the East Coast main line.
But if you live in the south west (like Vipros does), that's not really too handy either!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 8:47, Reply)

maybe an hour and a half away from me. I live between Warrnambool and Port Fairy
maps.google.com.au/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=-38.543869,142.745361&spn=0.951657,1.763306&z=9
and Peterborough is maybe an hour and a bit from Warrnambool.
Surf is very good there. Got the Bass Strait currents and winds from Antarctica that combine to make really good waves apparently.
This is all according to my brother though - he's a mad keen body boarder. EDIT : Link fixed hopefully!

Nice part of the world, V-Cat.
I have driven along there, although it was a few years back, when there were still twelve apostles! Quite spectacular.

this is pretty much what the surf was like when I went the other day. quite nice :-)
we tend to only hear about the surf on the East Coast of Oz over here. Hadn't really given much thought to the south

Pretty bloody cold and wet and windy though most of the year.
I get people in at work all the time who have spent all day driving along the G.O.R.

I worked.
We had 17 tables of two booked in. 8 showed up. One of those tables showed up - then left after deciding they didn't want a 4 course meal which was specifically what they had asked for.
Then about three quarters of the way through the night - kitchen lost track of where people were up to with meals. 5 tables had been waiting for desserts for twenty minutes before kitchen and it took another 20 minutes to get the desserts out to them.
It was shit. I think I turned away 3 grand worth of people because we had bookings and then half those bookings didn't show. Grrr.
My sunday - however - was lovely.
EDIT: TGB - sounds like a plan!

So I just sound like a twat on the phone and I'm not doing a good job because I don't get exactly what my job is.
Screw it they can pay me to be on b3ta

You need to have a chat with your boss. Stress that you're happy to cover extra duties (thus making clear it's not in fact your job) but it presents an unprofessional image of the office when you haven't been trained in these areas and are the only person in.

I have a meeting with her later. She was off for the first two weeks I was in the job as well which meant I had two weeks of people going "oh erm... is there anything Sam can do... erm scanning maybe?" So had to just scan hundreds of documents.

heard about a job yesterday that is basically asking for my skills and experience and paying £5k more than I am currently on. Don't want to leave this job though, so had a friendly chat with my boss yesterday to inform him that I might be worth a bit more than I am currently being paid.

And I concur Bill. At the very least, to combat proprietary nonsense, laws should be passed to enforce the release of source code for all software a company has produced when they go out of business. Preferably they'd enforce the same for software that a company no longer sells or supports but I'm sure the big software houses would be opposed to the idea and would prevent such measures ever being put in place.

I've bought the Ruark setup to hopefully get rid of the double installation arrangement I've got at the moment.
For the home cinema system, I was using a Mission FS2-AV setup, which was incredible in 5.1, but a bit limp in stereo. For the stereo work I had a pair of Ruark Prologue Ones, which are getting on a bit now but still sound the business. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of them both, and free up some space in my living room.

They've developed it for leisure as they don't think jetpacks are practical at all. Seems like they're hoping to sell them to people to offer rentals in the same sort of way you'd go water skiing or rent a jet ski. Apparently you can learn how to use it in a few minutes.
Personally I think they're on to something. I'd definitely pay good money to have a go - it looks amazingly fun.

Who abduct people then probe them before leaving them in the middle of a field with no clothes on just so that their friends will think they're insane when they start telling the story?
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:00, Reply)

That's just called having a laugh.
EDIT Or retarbed!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:03, Reply)

With no clothes on and a sore bottom is just a normal Friday night for b3tans.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:07, Reply)

I thought I was evil enough, but I guess I am the diet coke of evil :(
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:09, Reply)

Except for the sore bum.
Badger, but diet coke is more evil than real coke.
Oh OK, you can join the Evil Club.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:12, Reply)

Being set upon by Badgery Sam is quite nice.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:16, Reply)

Not the Sams, what ever will I do? I am so scared that my pants are falling off, and my sides are splitting!
/sarcasm
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:18, Reply)

in fear Dok?
Hell what kinda vertebrate does that?!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:21, Reply)

Fear can do strange things to people, just wait till you come over here and meet us lot!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:25, Reply)

You shall be set upon again then!
Dok fine be like that, no more hugs for you
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:25, Reply)

any time he likes!
And Dok - I'm not afraid of meeting you guys. I'm afraid of meeting you guys and not fitting in.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:34, Reply)

Are you sane? If so, I'd fear fitting in wouldn't go so well.
especially with TGB around...
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:36, Reply)

You'll fit in just fine, I know I felt the same way before my first bash.
Anyway, you already fit in, very snugly.
Badger, no more hugs. Pah, remember who got your scarf back young lady!

*Does the 'I Have A New Blackberry' Dance*
*Runs out again*
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:41, Reply)

That's not right.
Although she does seem kinda cool so perhaps we should let her in.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:42, Reply)

But we are all normal in our own little way, we are the immoral majority.
Bill, Feck off with your new crackberry!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:43, Reply)

but I feel like I get along better with people here then I do with people I know in person - mainly cos the people I know in person don't have the sense of humour so prevalent throughout the boards.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:44, Reply)

I'm totally insane *grins*
Dok you did get my scarf back.. and then gave it to me and then started making demands of what you wanted :p
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:44, Reply)

It isn't a Storm is it?
The screen feels like it'll fall out!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:45, Reply)

I know how you feel although it helps now that I've re-evaluated who I consider to be friends and who I've known for a long time and enjoy a drink with when I happen to see them. It's made me appreciate both my friends and "people I've known a long time" a lot more. Then of course there's the awesomeness of b3tans.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:47, Reply)

It's a replacement for my Bold which I might have accidently dropped a laptop on thus cracking the screen.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:49, Reply)

Never got them though did I!
Well except the hugs.
Vamp, it's because on here people can be more outgoing, we even stay this way in real life.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:50, Reply)

just hang out with whoever and treat them all equally (or try to).
EDIT: I know one person who is as out going in real life as she would be here. She's beautiful.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:50, Reply)

because once I got my scarf back I didn't need to give you anything else :p
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:51, Reply)

Then that's all good then. Welcome to Club Evil, where life is like a box of chocolates, full of things that are not good for you! ;)
Vamp, would that be the GF? I think that you'll be awesome when you get to a bash.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:56, Reply)

Has Sam merged his bash with the /talk one? I'm scared of going to a /talk one *scareds*
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:57, Reply)

Even the Pope is more honest than you Kaol!
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:57, Reply)

it's my best friend. My GF is somewhat reserved and shy.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 15:58, Reply)

Hmmm...
I'm getting really sleepy now, but found out that I might be at work 'til seven.
That's a 15-hour day. *frowns*
On the plus side, I've just made Super Coffee.
EDIT: You're a bunch of Filthy Liars
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:02, Reply)

I don't know, but he has deleted his, but he's not signed up for the other!
EDIT Shy, never! I agree with Wookie though.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:03, Reply)

I'm not sure what's happening now - I think not enough people had signed up.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:06, Reply)

That's a shame :(
I've gotta decide if I'm going to the /talk bash or not now.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:09, Reply)

but loads of people don't bother officially signing up
like me
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:10, Reply)

it might be a good idea to reinstate it and let Sam know. I'm not sure why he cancelled it, but it would be a shame if that was the reason.
There's not much point in going to a /talk bash if you don't post much on /talk.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:11, Reply)

While you might have posted with a couple of them if there's 5 or 6 others you don't know it's easy to end up on the outside of the conversation looking in.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:13, Reply)

I'm on the outside, I'm looking in song in my head. Stained was it?
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:20, Reply)

I'm off home now.
For the folks who don't want to go to the /talk bash, maybe somebody should put up another one, that is unless Sam can reinstate his.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:23, Reply)

has vanished though! Where is Sam!
And sorry don't mean you Wookiee, *hugs*
*puts on hat*
*dances*
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:24, Reply)

That's what you get for worshipping before false Sams.
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:48, Reply)

to you Wookiee but you can have a pint *hands pint*
( , Tue 17 Feb 2009, 16:57, Reply)

I'm off to "make the internet work" for my Gran.
I have no idea how to make this happen.
Just because I can use a computer without drooling on the keys or crying about the fact that "it's broken" every five minutes, doesn't make me an IT expert.
On the plus side, she's got goats, so I get to laugh at them.
Bye!
