Tuesday morning Home Sweet Home Thread


Morning all. I drank a bottle of wine last night and then didn't open the second bottle. I'm practically teetotal. How about you?

I had a few fingers
of Talisker last night to get over the shock of having spent so much on a new speaker system for my living room.

Didn't get to bed until 2am, which is generally accepted to be a bad idea when I'm back at work at 6.30.

I'm good thanks. Have discovered I really do have "too many" books as my book shelf collapsed last night!!
Have spent all this afternoon after school cleaning up and finding a new home for my books (the top of my chest of drawers).

I'm all sads now. I loved that shelf. And my wall is ruined now too.....

I'm not happy about it as I didn't sign myself up. Got an email around a little while ago saying I was signed up to go to peterboring for it rather than taking the obvious option of doing it in my office. Fuck that!

Peterborough is a shithole
it's pointless

our head office is there which is ridiculous because there are no motorways that go there, nor an airport.

it's hard to get to, and not worth it when you do.

Where is the Peterborough in Oz VC?

The easiest way to get to P'borough
is of course by train, as it's on the East Coast main line.

But if you live in the south west (like Vipros does), that's not really too handy either!

maybe an hour and a half away from me. I live between Warrnambool and Port Fairy

and Peterborough is maybe an hour and a bit from Warrnambool.
Surf is very good there. Got the Bass Strait currents and winds from Antarctica that combine to make really good waves apparently.

I've got my drinking down to every other day rather than every day.
Now I'm working on quantity. I also need to slip an extra day this week to make sure Saturday is a drinking day.

my V-day was pretty shite actually, generally
I worked.

We had 17 tables of two booked in. 8 showed up. One of those tables showed up - then left after deciding they didn't want a 4 course meal which was specifically what they had asked for.
Then about three quarters of the way through the night - kitchen lost track of where people were up to with meals. 5 tables had been waiting for desserts for twenty minutes before kitchen and it took another 20 minutes to get the desserts out to them.

It was shit. I think I turned away 3 grand worth of people because we had bookings and then half those bookings didn't show. Grrr.

My sunday - however - was lovely.

no one actually seems bothered to make sure I know how to do my job. Yesterday I was in the office by myself after my boss decided to work from home in the afternoon and I have no idea about technical info, the ins and outs of reacreditaion or if we do TSCO secondary courses in house.

So I just sound like a twat on the phone and I'm not doing a good job because I don't get exactly what my job is.

Screw it they can pay me to be on b3ta

You need to have a chat with your boss. Stress that you're happy to cover extra duties (thus making clear it's not in fact your job) but it presents an unprofessional image of the office when you haven't been trained in these areas and are the only person in.

I have a meeting with her later. She was off for the first two weeks I was in the job as well which meant I had two weeks of people going "oh erm... is there anything Sam can do... erm scanning maybe?" So had to just scan hundreds of documents.

had a great weekend. Highlights included: sex, eggs benedict, cool new shirt, beef wellington (cooked by me), sex, champagne, sex, surfing, a curry and spliffs.

heard about a job yesterday that is basically asking for my skills and experience and paying £5k more than I am currently on. Don't want to leave this job though, so had a friendly chat with my boss yesterday to inform him that I might be worth a bit more than I am currently being paid.

Well, as others heard yesterday
I've gone from having nobody I'm interested in and, as far as I was aware, nobody interested in me to having 3 people I'm interested in and 2 of them certainly interested in me. I also expect the 3rd is too but I can't be sure. Thinking of asking her out for drinks or some such soon but I don't think the timing is quite right yet.

In the last five months I've had about 6 people, 4 guys, 2 girls, come up to me and confess they like me. all these people were my friends.

Fucking Macs
After a 4 hour struggle last night I have come to the conclusion that I hate OSX, I was going to try and get my Mac mini back into an Appleified state rather than it's current Linux install with the idea of ebaying it but can't find a proper way to burn a dmg file in windows. Damn you Apple and your stupid proprietry formats, damn you!

And I concur Bill. At the very least, to combat proprietary nonsense, laws should be passed to enforce the release of source code for all software a company has produced when they go out of business. Preferably they'd enforce the same for software that a company no longer sells or supports but I'm sure the big software houses would be opposed to the idea and would prevent such measures ever being put in place.

I've bought the Ruark setup to hopefully get rid of the double installation arrangement I've got at the moment.

For the home cinema system, I was using a Mission FS2-AV setup, which was incredible in 5.1, but a bit limp in stereo. For the stereo work I had a pair of Ruark Prologue Ones, which are getting on a bit now but still sound the business. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of them both, and free up some space in my living room.

They've developed it for leisure as they don't think jetpacks are practical at all. Seems like they're hoping to sell them to people to offer rentals in the same sort of way you'd go water skiing or rent a jet ski. Apparently you can learn how to use it in a few minutes.

Personally I think they're on to something. I'd definitely pay good money to have a go - it looks amazingly fun.

While you might have posted with a couple of them if there's 5 or 6 others you don't know it's easy to end up on the outside of the conversation looking in.
