a) heat and carbon capture technology
b) carbon scrubbing and cleaner coal
c) reduced transport poultion from using easily accessible coal rather than oil or natural gas.
d) cheaper to build and less carbon intensive to build than other fossil fuel power sources.
e) the technology used to build the plants is developed and built in this country, creating jobs, reducing the carbon footprint of the whole project.
it's ignorant to simpy say 'clean coal' what a load of bollocks.

Clean? No.
Time to build some nuclear plants anyway. They should spend money explaining to the public how they actually work so they're not shit-scared of them.

IIRC the UK spends more money on mobile phone ringtones than nuclear fusion research...

You just said it yourself.
No powerplant is totally clean.
Which is why "clean coal" is such a retarded statement.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 14:56, Reply)

Clean coal power stations -v- not clean coal power stations.
Clean coal power stations are real, clean and our best option for cutting down on carbon emissions at the national grid level right now.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 14:58, Reply)

But the majority of people wont understand that. They'll here "clean" and think it must be ok and have no drawbacks at all.

It's a good thing the decisions will be made by intelligent people, after the next general election, at least.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 15:02, Reply)

Clairvoyance, nice.
So instead of trying to make sure people understand properly you'd delibertately ignore the ability of your audience to comprehend what you're saying. Great fucking lot of good you'd be.

they always want to know stuff, WHY CANT THEY JUST DO WHAT I SAY! The country would be so much better if all those fucking whiners just accepted everything that was told to them by those lovely government types.

That sounds like witchcraft.
Fuck the fact that Africa will die, can't have this new fangled clean coal.
This is what you sound like to me, you awful penis.

running out of fossil fuels and therefore energy is the more demanding concern I would've thought, and nuclear fission in the short-term and fusion in the long are the most sensible answers to this.
particularly given how our delightfully abundant source of tidal energy is for all intents and purposes overlooked.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 15:30, Reply)

but there are ways of producing electricity that are orders of magnitude more environmentally friendly than others.
The fact is we are going to get lumbered with coal power stations, which have a life of say 50 years, due to pretending there wasn't a problem with our power generation for decades until at the last minute we don't actually have a choice but to plump for something we've done before.
Just because it's easy to build, doesn't make it the best choice.

"less carbon intensive to build than other fossil fuel power sources"
We shouldn't be using fossil fuel power sources. We have plenty of Uranium in this country.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 14:53, Reply)

As I said, you don't know anything about it.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 14:55, Reply)

you don't know anything about what I do or don't know.
I made a fairly blasé statement about Ed Milibands stupid cunt face and talking about clean coal in the same way as wind power and suddenly I don't know anything about it and you're the expert.

Wild assumptions? Check.
Accusations of retardery, while not giving any reasons as to why you should be listened to above others? Check.
A general sense of smugness? Check.
Actually. Scrub all that. You *must* be a meat puppet.

Given that most proposed windfarms are offshore for starters, and that the evidence of the 'low pressure' fucking bats up is not exactly rigorous I wouldn't do a damn thing.
This is also the opinion of most of the heads of environmental charities.
The real issue with wind technology is that it's all new and there isn't any real incentive to research it along with solar power becuase the goverment has provided no incentives.
( , Thu 16 Jul 2009, 15:08, Reply)

A giant fan-blade is more likely to fuck a bat up.
There are a whole lot of suggestions as to how to prevent this. None have been put in to action, as far as I'm aware.

Why should I give a rat's ass about green energy? And also, why would I ever want to pay more for it?

Edit: but yes to clendrix's idea also.
