Down there V
Gary McKinnon has lost his extradition appeal. For those not aware, McKinnon hacked into US military computers looking for evidence that the Septics had been suppressing intelligence proving the existence of UFOs.

I've got two questions about this, firstly is it right to slam someone in jail for basically being a massive fucking idiot and secondly, where do you draw the line between somebody committing a crime maliciously and committing a crime because you're a moron?

I personally don't think this guy should be dragged out of the country and put in front of a foreign court in order to spend probably the rest of his natural in a foreign jail simply because he was mentally deluded enough to do something tremendously stupid.

I've been arguing the toss about this with Robert Steadman (composer and twat google him)
Who says "Its a great day for British Justice I hope the criminal scum rots in jail, there should be a special hell for hackers" "He's scum. The US should now deal with him and lock him up for life" and "His convenient "illness" has been seen through"

I almost forwarded his comments to 4chan but thought better of it.

I don't deny he should be punished for his crimes but to spend the rest of his life in jail is madness, I could kill someone and be out in 10 years.

I imagine US DOD will give him a job
either designing internet security for the US or hacking into Russia and Irans' security.

It was very foolish of the UK MOD to let an asset like that get away.

He should have his bottom spanked by his mummy for being a very naughty boy.
That's all.

What annoys me
Is that the extradition policy is a mutual agreement between us and our 'special' relation, the US. However, if it was the other way round, it would be very difficult to have someone extradited from America to here, if not impossible.

the stats are roughly.....
UK to USA 90% are Granted
USA to UK 70% are Granted

Though I am unsure what would happen if a US citizen hacked in to UK computers and the UK wanted the USA to extradite them.

His only crime
is that he made them look stupid. The guy is obviously mentally ill but extremely talented. When Uncle USA says roll over though, Britain lubes up and assumes the position.
Poor bastard does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in a foreign jail, but since when did they (or we by proxy) give a fuck about human rights anymore. At least they didn't torture him first. /Rant

Edit: Oh, hi OT'ers by the way, I think that may have been my OT cherry. I'm fluffy really, just feel sorry for the guy.

If he was a us citizen, I think it's really unlikely that he could be convicted of anything
in a US Court because of his condition.

That said, this country can often be as autistic as he is as there are people still trying to portray a boy as a vicious terrorist who when 12 (and probably brainwashed by religion) was convinced to try to throw a grenade at an american army vehicle invading his country.

What an extreme waste of money, effort, energy, and time to torture a person who really has no grasp on reality and his family. This doesn’t do anyone any good.

I'm
not sure he's *that* talented. I mean, he didn't tunnel through to the machines he was aiming at, he didn't clear log files behind himself, and to top it off, he actually conversed with a user at one of the machines (through typing in WordPad in Windows) and used his real email address.

I don't agree with his extradition, but he does sound like a bit of a numpty.

Some of the stuff he missed is hacking-101.

The us government should consider this a learning experience and try to actually
put a little security on their systems. If this kid could get in, think what a really focused attack could do.

True

The should have thanked him, paid him to keep his trap shut to avoid embarrasment and got it fixed!

Calm down people
what you are forgetting is that most of our federal prisons are like high class spa resorts. It was a federal crime, and he earned a loverly vacation for his efforts apparently. Perhaps he can learn tennis while he is locked up.

He wouldn't get one of those prisons,
only the few rich who are allowed to go to prison actually get the country club prisons. I doubt there is anyone who would consider a high (or even medium) security federal prison a summer camp.

I've been a prison guard in a max security prison
Federal is a walk in the park compared to State. Especially for the officers as there are 2 guards per inmate in fedral but more along the lines of 1 guard per 1000 inmates in most state prisons*

Still, Canadian prisons appear to be some of the cushiest I've ever researched. That is where he should have hacked.

*those were the stats 7 years ago when I left. The stats in texas are now much worse
