I got the new Wolfmother album yesterday
It's not quite as good as I hoped and heard it would be.

I counteracted the disappointment by watching Empire Strikes Back. It was good.

How's it going?

Could be better, could be worse.
I am at work.
But I don't have shingles.

I quite like that "If I were a boy" song by that Beyonce bird, and her other song, 'smash into you'.
She's such a swell gal.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 10:58, Reply)
Bonjour!
I am saddened to hear about the new album not being that good... this is bad news indeed. :(

Also it would appear I missed out on Boobgate, look what happens when I have no internets... and no Sky HD! Booooooo
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:00, Reply)
it's not bad
but I had very high hopes.

how was the move?
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:04, Reply)
I watched Tenacious D and the pick of destiny at the weekend.
I was overcome with a sudden urge to ROCK!!!!
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:14, Reply)
heh
I caught the end of that

the bit with the devil is the best bit, particularly the line in his song
"check this riff, it's fucking tasty"
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:15, Reply)
I love that film
Well, I love all things Tenacious D! :D
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:18, Reply)
I too love the D
but I thought the film was a bunch of wank. It had some funny moments, but just wasn't what I had hoped.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:40, Reply)
Its a grower
I wasn't so sure on it the first time... but the more I watch it, the more I like it! :D
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:45, Reply)
I've kind of gone off them a bit
even the first album which I loved.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:48, Reply)
Booooo
I'll never go off them - NEVER I TELLS YA!!
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:56, Reply)
most of the songs are ok
but the talking in between winds me up
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:03, Reply)
Me too
I think I'll probably be disappointed too then!

The move was good thank you, I'm knackered now and back at work today so at least I have the internet! Hurrah! :)
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:15, Reply)
I'll give it another listen tonight and hopefully it will grow on me
excellent stuff!

I need to add it to my Xmas Wish List

Woo morning!
How's the new home? I'm so waiting for the broadband man right now...
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:06, Reply)
Morning lovely!
The move went well thanks. The freezer is dead and killed all our food but other than that its gone quite well! :D
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:17, Reply)
I think your tap water gave me the shits

(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:22, Reply)
Do'h!
I'm fuelled by Diet Coke so I wouldn't know if its dodgy or not... was that water from the new or old flat... the new flat water is 'fuzzy' according to DiT!?
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:24, Reply)
It's the only thing I can think of
I got a horrific case of squirting gut rot at Finsbury Park station on my way home on saturday night, and I hadn't eaten anything dodgy that day, and the only thing I had drunk (other than four small bottles of cider) was a can of diet coke and a glass of water from your new place, and I remember you saying it had been vacant for six weeks previously so I reckon the water in the pipes was the most likely suspect.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:29, Reply)
Ooooooh yeah
it was probably from the new place then... sorry! DiT is using our Brita water filter thingy at the moment so the water straight from the tap is probably on the dodgy side!! :S

That... or it was the date rape drug I slipped you... nah...
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:31, Reply)
Well, I did get a bit concerned that you seemed rather over familiar in the pub afterwards

(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:33, Reply)
Noooo
that was DiT playing footsie with you
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:35, Reply)
Awwww man, I thought that was his mum, that's why I was so recalcitrant.
If i'd known it was him I would have been all over him.

IGNORE ^ THIS LITTLE SHIT
He's trying to kill me.
Glad it went well!
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:25, Reply)
Why is he trying to kill you?

(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:26, Reply)
I'm not trying to kill her
but sadly, she is very close to passing.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:29, Reply)
Awww
This is sad news

You'd have to ask him

I'm good. Scared but good.
Daughter's new social worker said 'I really think you should go for it' when I told her I wanted to legally take her on full-time. Big endorsement I reckon. What follows is a bloody battle to achieve it. Still shitting myself.

well worth it though
hang in there, you deserve it!

You deserve it mate. Go for your life.

A little sleepy but all ok here
I watched Paranormal Activity last night.

It was pretty good. Unfortuantely the mrs is a bit of a wimp so we only managed the 1st hour.

Shortly after midnight she decamped to the sofa due to my excessive snoring. She lasted 10 minutes before she got scared and came back to bed.

Today I am not in her bad books!
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:10, Reply)
Ha!
You should start going "sssh! Did you just hear that?!" at random moments during the night. Work her in to a paranormal mental frenzy until she's a gibbering wreck. Putty in your hands after that, as long as you don't mind mopping the drool off her chin and changing her shitty kecks.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:32, Reply)
Damn
That's a shame. That's likely to bring the total of 'bands around today that I like that aren't old dinosaurs still soldiering on' back down to 1: Airbourne. And they're good but equally hilarious in an irony-free cliched style.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:20, Reply)
Airbourne were great live
singer climbed the speaker rig in the pissing rain and ended up hanging from the top from one hand, guitar still slung off his back.

The Wolfmother album isn't bad, it's just not as good as I hoped. I was expecting an avalanche of hardcore rock, and it didn't quite deliver that.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:21, Reply)
when I saw them (Airbourne)
he ended the encore by smashing an unopened pint can of Stella against his head until it exploded in a 6' fountain of lager. It was extremely entertaining.

superb

They're playing London in January
Maybe you could be persuaded to come up for it, taking in some epic drugs'n'drink'n'curry action along the way? I've a sofabed.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:27, Reply)
think January might still be skint
my sojourn to london may well have to be a little later than that. we shall see though. would be good to tie it into a gig.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:33, Reply)
I'm prepared to buy your ticket if that would help.

(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:34, Reply)
A most generous offer!
their website says they are playing london in april.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:37, Reply)
In which case that's the one.
Shall I get you a ticket then?

In the next two weeks I have a 40k cheque coming my way. It's to pay off my horrible loans and cards but I shall treat myself to a bit of splurge and don't mind one iota cutting you in on the deal.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:39, Reply)
I'll have to check the dates and get back to you
hmm, a thursday too. I'm planning a long holiday a week or so after so will need to check the leave situation as well.

I'm touched by the offer though
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:43, Reply)
My very great pleasure.
If you fancy it just let me know - I'll buy the tickets in around a fortnight, and I'll give you a nudge just before I do.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:47, Reply)
nice thanks
if I can't make this one it'd be good to tie a visit in with another gig, so I'll keep my eyes on what's coming up.

Discovered the other day that Monster Magnet are touring in December, all midweek (no leave left) and nowhere near me. Fucking gay.

I'm doing Motorhead and The Damned on Saturday
and thus Gong/Hillage the night before is looking decidedly iffy.

Gong I've seen loads of times, but Hillage only picked up a guitar again last year (after a 20-odd year break doing ambient dance stuff) and that was with Gong, so the opportunity to see his solo stuff is something I never thought I'd ever have the chance to see. He's in my top three guitarists ever, without doubt.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:58, Reply)
I'll need to check Hillage out, and Gong for that matter.
I'm currently bored by almost everything I've listened to all weekend. Apart from Tool, or in fact anything involving Maynard from Tool.

or Clutch.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:01, Reply)
You really do
Gong can be a bit silly (in a whimsical psychedelic way) at times but the musicianship is exemplary.

My tips:

GONG:
Gong Live Etc
You (the third and best instalment of the Flying Teapot series)
Camembert Electrique
Floating Anarchy

beware Pierre Moerlen's Gong which they morphed into in the late 70s, dull noodly jazz rock. Shamal being a bad but ty[pical example.

HILLAGE:
Fish Rising (utterly brilliant, an all time favourite)
Live Herald
Green
Live at Deeply Vale
Germany 77 (DVD - brilliant)

avoid his 80s stuff. He was right to pack it in and go ambient by then.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:15, Reply)
cheers
I'll check some out
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:54, Reply)
I'd recommend a band to you, but their most recent stuff is nowhere near as good as the old
so you might go onto myspace and be put off by it.

Not sure if you will like them anyway, but might be worth a go....
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:26, Reply)
Nothing to do with Average Bears are they?
I've heard they are THE FUTURE.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:28, Reply)
heh
no. they are the future though.

These are a modern prog group. Pure Reason Revolution. Quite a lot of harmonies. songs are very dynamic. You might hate it though. Try and get their first album Cautionary Tales for the Brave, because it's better than the rest of their stuff. I could probably send it to you tonight if you fancy it.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:32, Reply)
Go for it then mate
I'll give 'em a whirl
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:33, Reply)
I'll email myself as a reminder
I'm sure there are some other new bands that I like who you would probably like too. I'll have to go through my collection.

Did you listen to Black Mountain?
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:37, Reply)
I did not (damn you pothead memory issues!)
Thanks for reminding me.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:40, Reply)
tugnuts tip of the day...
...seek out the 'Death' reissue of 'For the Whole World to See'.

It kicks bottom.

(Can I say 'bottom' or is that verboten?)
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 11:50, Reply)
'It kicks breasts' isn't allowed.
'Bottom' I think you're OK with.

(thanks for the tip, Tuggers old bean)
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:00, Reply)
"It kicks breasts"?
That really is not on. You not only mentioned those 'saucy dumplings' but are implying acts of violence against them.

I thereby snitch on Monty and claim my five pounds*.

(*Which I will not blow on 'Massive Jugs Monthly'.)

I am happy
for Amazon tells me my first ever Harmonica has been dispatched. I shall become a country/folk singing legend. Like Bob Dylan but without the sneery whine.

Apart from that I think manflu may be upon me. I got that thing where you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. Then you spend the next 30 minutes panicking about how you'll never make work in the morning and the chances are you'll probably even be dead from swine flu...
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:03, Reply)
it is advisable to have a selection of harmonicas in different keys
otherwise you'll be limited to playing along with only things that are in the key to which your harmonica is complimentary.

for instance, song in E would want an A harmonica

unless you've not gone for diatonic ones. In which case ignore what I've said
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:07, Reply)
Or...
...just get a kazoo.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:11, Reply)
Well
I'm mainly wanting to learn the basics but having played guitar for about a decade now I'm fairly familiar with changing key to suit my needs. One day would like to have a few harmonicas but I hear the key of C is the best for starting out...
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:15, Reply)
well, the harmonica player in my band has about 10 for various keys
we play blues type stuff (and he plays dylan-type stuff) and generally for that a C would be suitable for songs in G
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 12:23, Reply)
it took an embarrassingly long time to work that out
I had just the one harp and got reasonably good on it but couldn't fathom key variations. I love a good harmonica player, but fucking loathe that Dylan-style asthmatic bagpiper style. My fucking gran could master that in about two minutes.
(, Tue 24 Nov 2009, 13:34, Reply)
I really want to learn the gob-iron
But I lack co-ordination...
