every pavement and most of the roads I have to traverse betwixt home and work
was basically a sheet of ice. not seen anyone stack it yet, but I have a good view of a reasonably slopy car park, so am bound to soon.

was your journey to work extra dangerous today?

My car was frozen shut

I had to WD40 the lock to get in, the frost was thin but rock hard, aside from that the roads are fine, but i do live in Lahndan

All the pavements are olympic standard ice rinks now
I had to walk in the road, and when there were cars I had to WALK IN THE GUTTER. Bastards.

AND I have that stupid fucking Lady Gaga song in my head where she sings "Ra Ra oo la laa"
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:18, Reply)
Oh fuck you
now it's in my head too.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:21, Reply)
I'm glad I don't know that song
and will most likely just have Dio in my head all day

I have had Skid Row...
...'I remember you' stuck in my head for 24 hrs. Awful song, awful band - it is driving me mad.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:44, Reply)
Thanks. Thanks a fuckin bunch.
Now it's stuck in my head too.

uh-oh spaggetti-o's
if it's any consolation, which it wont be, when I get to the "Ra Ra" bit my brain turns it into "RA Ra Rasputin" by Boney M.

some of the roads were no better than the pavements
not much fun.

our car park is being gritted now at least, which is something
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:21, Reply)
I dont know what grit they are using in North Somerset
but all it seems to do is turn the ice brown. I think it might be Bovril.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:25, Reply)
I got on a bus the other day
and was chatting with the driver (actually he started talking to me. I'm not really a 'chatting to the bus driver' kind of person) and he said that around here they were very short on grit: the roads had been done but not the pavements, and this meant lots of people walked in the road.

'That's fair enough', he said, 'but it did mean I ran over an old granny on Saturday' and shrugged.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:24, Reply)
good stuff
I'm not sure the bus drivers down here can talk

specially not the horrible ginger woman. she looks like a fucking neanderthal
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:27, Reply)
Ha! Bus driver 1 : Old Lady 0
was he really a bus driver or was he an escaped mental?
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:27, Reply)
the two terms are synonymous

(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:28, Reply)
I think he was an escaped bus driver.

Haha "I'm not really a 'chatting to the bus driver' kind of person)"
Really? I bet that's shocked everyone here this morning, you miserble git!

you don't have any pals with whom to have adventures
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 10:14, Reply)
That's not entirely fair
I have some made-up pals. They're great, we do everything together and they are such a laugh. Honestly the things I could tell you.

No but he's always being attacked with catapults

(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 10:16, Reply)
that is a given

(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 10:19, Reply)
It seems they forgot to grit the pavements of Manchester
so yesterday was just horrific. I have yet to fall over, which is surprising as I usually faceplant in normal weather and sometimes when I'm standing still.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:22, Reply)
Most of the roads here seem to be fine
As are most of the pavements once you get out of my street anyway. Yet still people are leaving their cars at home and walking to work. Fools.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:29, Reply)
Nighmare here
Pavements and sidestreets are an icy death trap, though the main roads and bus routes are ok. Nearly stacked on the way from my front door to the car and in the car park in work.
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:33, Reply)
You are a bunch of drama queens.
Walk slow, drive carefully, don't wear leather shoes or heels, leave earlier.

I'm off till next week
Have to go out now though. I live in a little cul-de-sac and it's a smidge glassy, to say the least. Low gear, low revs!
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 9:56, Reply)
There was a threat of mild peril, yes.
Strangely *some* pavements in Wanstead are ice free while others are in the batting for being a venue in the winter olympics. The Central Line had its usual "completely incompetent Wednesday" - but what the hell! It's Christmas!
(, Wed 23 Dec 2009, 10:07, Reply)
I'm off, but do have to venture out later.
I'm leaving it a while to see if the sunshine helps melt it...
