What's your view on it? I can't make up an opinion, I see two sides.

What they should do is put the family (when the baby's born) in some kind of supervised environment and see how she fares with the baby. But on the other hand, if something happens and the there's another BabyP there'll be uproar.
What about the possibility of showing the girl how to care for a baby, making sure she understands the responsibility? But then again, if they already think she doesn't have the capacity to understand the social services must have a good reason.
I don't know. I'm torn.

and in my humble opinion 'mild learning difficulties' isn't a good enough reason
however, the article doesn't quote anything from social services so this is just one part of the story

they only tend to tell one side of the story. Hence the moniker Daily Fail.

if she cant be legally able to give consent out of a mental disorder that could count as statutory rape.

It's from the Daily Mail, Social services haven't been asked for their side of the story (or if they have, the Mail are deliberately not printing the response) and it's yet another story that makes out the the Mail knows best. Typical fodder.
I very much doubt it's as clear cut as the story makes out. Social Services cannot just decide on a whim to remove a baby from its family- there are a lot of hoops to jump through.
If this story is in any other papers with a more balanced view then I'd be interested to see what the real reasons are.
Never believe the Daily Mail. That way insanity doth lie.

Yeah, plus anyone caught breeding while claiming benefits would be forced to do hard labour (of the work kind, not the giving birth kind).
I plan to spend my £20 a week child benefit on caviar.

There is simply no way that a parent or potential parent with mild learning disabilities would have their child taken from them just for that. 10, 20 years ago maybe, but nowdays the treatment of parents with learning disabilities by the state is not exactly perfect (The real issue is mainly that no concrete support is realy there for them untill something goes so badly wrong that major intervention is needed, coupled with ostricisation from mainstream society mainly due to people's perceptions of people with learning disabilities) but nowdays social services are very reluctant indeed to remove a child based soley on the parent or parents having learning difficulties.
The ideal solution would of course be greater levels of support for parents who themselves have learning disabilities, but hey, that'd cost a fair bit of cash.

That can be used on the Mexican girls who all wear their hair scraped back! I shall try to start using that soon!

But I can't find any reason why the father is unfit. If something happened to my wife I would raise Akira alone, there's no way social services would take her. There has to be so much more to it than "mild learning difficulties"
*edit* I found a video interview with them and what ever is wrong with her it's a lot more than mild learning difficulties and wouldn't let her be a lone parent and I sort of agree on the marriage issue. I still don't know why the father can't look after the baby though.
