On banning people for slagging off other people on QOTW
OK, I got a bit pissed off with the whole slagging-off-other-members-because-their-QOTW-stories-may-or-may-not-be-fiction thing and might have implied that I would swing my Mod's Ban Hammer (2d20, double damage) at a few skulls.

Ain't gonna happen. I hate modding people's accounts, especially for low-level stuff like this.

We DON'T CARE if people's QOTWs are fake. We don't care if a finely-crafted, very funny story might be a bit of a porky. The joke's the thing, and it's fair to say that most of the best tales have been somewhat exaggerated in the telling. I know mine have.

So. Nobody's going to get banned, but PLEASE [touchy-feely bit coming up] think of the consequences before you publish. We're sensitive artist types round here. We hate criticism.

I appreciate the sentiment about not constantly picking on an individual but going around banning people for having an opinion about someone seems pretty heavy-handed to me. I've seen much worse on other boards here and it should be accepted that someone as prolific and popular as him will have his detractors too.

My stories have always been true and unexaggerated
with the exception of the one about Rocky, my prize fighting whelk.

However, I don't give a crap if other people's stories are true or not as long as they are entertaining. Having said that, I rarely post stories any more because I can't be arsed wading through Spanky's posts which are essentially one laboured joke that is invariably the same every week, and all the other barely-literate the "good times", "nuff said", "cue this", "I'll post more later" bollocks. In other words, it stopped being entertaining for me.

But who gives a crap? It's the Internet.

So I have no intention to slag people off if their stories aren't true (because, as you say, who cares?) but I don't see why we can't offer criticism at all, especially for the stuff that isn't "finely crafted". Criticism is by far the most entertaining stuff to read.
