saw this on the news yesterday
They featured some woman who kept on having children despite knowing they'd be severly disabled physically and mentally. She had 6 kids that didn't last 4 weeks and an 18 year old who lives in constant pain.

I found myself shouting at the TV: STOP BREEDING YOU SELFISH BINT!

She's mentioned on the third page of the article.
I heard it this morning and that was my first reaction, but according to this she wasn't diagnosed with the condition until the fifth baby died.

They don't mention whether the surviving kid was before or after the diagnosis, though.
Tricky one that - have a broken kid or none at all...

I think after two or three
I'd say that enough was enough. That sort of heartbreak should never have to be endured.

I think adoption should be first on the list of people who can't conceive
rather than expensive IVF treatment and whatnot.

Obviously, I might feel different were I actually faced with the situation myself, but at the moment I think that if I couldn't conceive then adoption would be my next choice.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:31, Reply)
My wife and I conceived very easily
but we are still considering adoption. So many kids end up in foster homes moving about and not having a stable life. If we thought we would actually meet the rather strict criteria we would do it.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:47, Reply)
That would be lovely
but you're right, they do seem so strict, that's why everyone is adopting Guatamalan babies and the like.

You shout that at people giving birth in the Merseyside region

(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 10:59, Reply)
It's a serious problem!
The government should do something. Aren't there anymore industries they could shut down?
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:10, Reply)
It seems to me there are lots of
children already born who need families. Wouldn't dealing with this problem be more productive than concentrating on making more brats?
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:02, Reply)
this sounds like one of those
why are you doing X when we still don't have a cure for cancer / HIV?

Some people just don't want a kid that's not biologically theirs so will always drive research to allow them to do so.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:08, Reply)
i suppose
it must be because I have no maternal instinct. Kids are all pretty much the same, aren't they?

also, I am impressed by the science of it all, I'm not saying they shouldn't, I just question why people are so obsessed with having kids
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:09, Reply)
No, they aren't pretty much all the same.
look at Harvey Price. GO ON, LOOK AT HIM.

It's a natural urge to reproduce
and hence ensure the survival of the species.

I must admit it seems to have missed me out though. I have never liked the idea, despite the testimony of all my mates who say, "Oh I felt like that too, but now that I'm a dad it's great" etc etc. I'm yet to be convinced.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:11, Reply)
Similar to people who buy an iPhone
"To start with the shafting I received from Apple really chafed, but now I'm locked into a lengthy contractual agreement I've convinced myself I love it."

You can really feel the warmth I have for children.

Please don't go babysitting tonight

(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:17, Reply)
Or if you do
best leave your pointy stick at home.

(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:22, Reply)
I've already agreed to.
Technically, the ex is looking after the kid. I'm just there to look after her if she stops breathing.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:21, Reply)
Oh aye?
I'm just there to look after her if she stops breathing feel her up on the couch.

That is what babysitting is all about.
(, Thu 15 Apr 2010, 11:23, Reply)
Giggity
