How awesome is
my hand painted festival flag? Painted bit is A3 sized, cheers to the University of Scouseland, their printers and especially their shelvers

Alt Q - what alcohol should I bring to a metal festival for most fun?

An interesting use
when the festival's over
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:39, Reply)
Also applebite already kinda asked that question today
READ ALL THREADS BEFORE POSTING OK!

Not all of us have an encyclopaedic memory of what Applebite has posted so far today

Let's review shall we
How the hell am I supposed to get enough clothes, food, supplies and alcohol to last me a week into one fairly small rucksack? Help?
Someone come and do it for me, please? :( Or shall I sack off the clothes and wear nothing but a bikini for a week, hence opening up more space for food and alcohol?

I'm going to shorten this to, "What should I pack into a small rucksack?" This is different to, "What alcohol should I bring to a metal festival?"

And you're in charge of NHS databases *shakes head*

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:52, Reply)
I'll admit that was a decent burn.

Alt Q: Red Stripe
That's the majority of what I'm taking to Bloodstock.

That, a box of wine, and a bottle of Jaeger

Alt Q - An mp3 player with some decent music on.

I remember getting breakfast on Sunday morning at Download last year and there was hiphop playing on a small CD player.

Me: "That Roots Manuva?"
Cook: "Yeah."
Me: "That sounds so good. I've had nothing but metal for two days straight and I'm going nuts."

Might pack some synth/indie/hiphop CDs in the car.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:45, Reply)
Perhaps download is the wrong festival for you..

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:56, Reply)
it's the only festival I've really enjoyed
admittedly I haven't been to many others but I love their line-ups. A tiny bit of variation would be nice but I like diametrically opposed genres - it would just never happen.

If you can find some of those little bottle of Stroh
they're easy to conceal about your person and they're 80% so sipping them slowly will keep you nicely merry, or downing them will get you fucked.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:54, Reply)
Oh Stroh
That contributed to V___ losing 6 days over his 19th birthday
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:56, Reply)
I was only allowed to serve one per customer when I worked in a bar
it tastes like paintstripper!
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:58, Reply)
It incapacitates Russians
it MEANS BUSINESS
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:09, Reply)
To be fair, so does beer.
For some reason that can put away vodka like nobody's business but seem to be strangely susceptible to beer and wine. At least in my limited experience of Russian people.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:11, Reply)
I'm like that with certain drinks though
I drink Jack all the time so that's fairly harmless, but if I have a couple of halves of lager I'll be all light headed. And wine totally fucks me over.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:14, Reply)
I don't know what beer does to me
I avoid whiskey and shit like that.

Gin vodka cider, but never mixing all three. Actually that's a lie, I've been known to do that.

I miss the days when I could be blotto on half a bottle of Rose :(

London is a cripplingly expensive place to have a tolerance for alcohol.

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:24, Reply)
TAKE MEDICATION
MOVE TO MANCHESTER

that should be advice dog or something...
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:26, Reply)
Hmm...
I've got some antihistamines and a couple of Rennies in my desk. And I'm only a tube ride away from Euston station...
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:28, Reply)
Go to Canal Street
They'll looooove you there.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:30, Reply)
This is what my sister keeps telling me.
I remain sceptical.

A good alternative to £3.50 for a pint of watered down Tuborg
if last year is anything to go by.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:59, Reply)
It amused me that you had to point out it was watered down
as if £3.50 for a pint of second-rate beer wasn't bad enough*.

*And tragically, incrasingly the norm down in This London...
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:04, Reply)
what's worse is that when you've finished with your paper cup
you're getting harangued by some goddamned hippy as it has a 20p redemption value. I found myself ripping up my empties just to be left alone.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:29, Reply)
Heh that's pretty awesome...
And for the Alt Q, if you're looking for maxiumum alcohol content (and something pretty tasty) I'd go with Absinthe - The La Fee Absinthe is pretty tasty but yeah, be carefull with that stuff it is a bit lethal.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:57, Reply)
I used to get through the Absinthe
In my first year of uni, but it's so expensive (£25 for 500ml anyone?) and if you try to drink it while sober, don't expect to be able to speak without sounding hoarse for a few minutes.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 20:10, Reply)
I'm one of those dickheads
Who buy a £5 two-litre liquid pouch back-pack type thing that runners use, with the giant straw. So I can safely conceal cheap spirits under my hoody as I go into the "arena".

Pros: Cheap booze in the arena
Cons: Once it's finished you kind of have to wander around with an annoying damp, empty small backpack. Well actually I chucked mines away in the end but still..

Drink of choice was 50% Vodka, 50% Tesco 'Kick' (roughly)

P.s. nice flag
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:58, Reply)
I love cheap energy drinks
Morrison's Source is my current favourite at 35p a can
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:59, Reply)
Indeed
However I honestly find it increases hangover by 33%
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:01, Reply)
Oh god yes it's horrific
And if I'm driving and drink nothing but these I get a chemical hangover the next day anyway.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:02, Reply)
Lidl did one for about 8pence I think
have only been twice to Lidl though
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:03, Reply)
Yeah I find that with the Vodka/redbull drinks
Do you reckon it's got anything to do with Caffene drinks contributing to dehydration?
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:02, Reply)
Well perhaps
but I believe the random chemicals thrown in like taurine, glucuronolactone, Niacin etc etc etc
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:04, Reply)
yeah that's prolly it
also the unadulterated crap that goes in there can't help.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:07, Reply)
White Lightning Cider
or similar non real, off your head on one can type beverage.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 14:59, Reply)

no-one's noticed the mouseover text yet
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:07, Reply)
you'd better point out exactly where it is then, like Chompy does.
Maybe also explain why it's funny, just in case.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:08, Reply)
IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE I'M REFERING TO APPLEBITE'S BREASTS

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:11, Reply)
She's over 18!

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:13, Reply)
That's why I said
post jail-bait
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:13, Reply)
Oh, I thought it was "after I've viewed some jailbait breasts"
So you mean "my fun is viewing post-jailbait breasts"?

You're going to have to go a Chompy and explain the joke.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:14, Reply)
I couldn't find the mouseover
so I don't know what it said, sorry.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:13, Reply)
Hahahaha

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:14, Reply)
I last drank that shit 14 years ago and was picked off the bathroom floor, trousers and pants around my ankles, by my mum.
That's dignity.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:07, Reply)
and you're questioning
my taste in music... tsk, tsk I don't know.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:10, Reply)
I was listening to that sort of shit back then.

(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:13, Reply)
I had a pretty similar experiance with that stuff.
Bout a half bottle of it and I just (apparently) walked home and passed out in the front garden till my dad found me the next day on his way to work.
(, Tue 8 Jun 2010, 15:16, Reply)
I've not had it in ages
I think that was the first alcoholic drink I had and liked. I might even prefer it to Gin. But it's so expensive :(
