I am so behind the times
I have a CRT PC monitor as well as a CRT TV. I Figure on killing two birds with one stone by getting an LCD TV and also using it as a monitor.

Is this any good for that? www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/evotel-elcd32usb-32-hd-ready-lcd-tv-03021887-pdt.html

It looks good but I'm woefully uninformed about these new fangled gadgets.

Never heard of the brand
so don't go for it, check www.ebuyer.com or richersounds.

also using a 32 inch as a pc monitor is a pain, it's too big.

listen to him
he talks sense

how's that then?
I've never used a superhuge monitor so I just assumed bigger would be better. Somthing closer to 26" maybe?

depends on the size of your desk
and what you use it for. I would get a TV and a seperate 19-21 inch monitor

It's a lot for your eyes to take in
just uncomfortably big. I agree with getting seperate TV and 19-21 inch monitor. Probably cheaper and the monitor will do you for years and years.

You need a really long desk to get the mouse from one end of the screen to the other.

(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 16:29, Reply)
Or alternatively
a mouse 5 times the normal size.

It's all about the pixels, the more the better. I'd rather have a slightly smaller screen with more pixels than a bigger screen with less.

That's for computer use.
When it comes to watching video, that above telly is 'fine', nothing great, but it'll do for it's price, although I'd check out eBuyer.com and Richer Sounds. But for reading things on, like websites, it's shit.

I have never heard of that brand
I would put that £200 towards a better TV. Amazon have some great prices, but I would steer clear of buying from a marketplace seller.

I find it easier to kill them before they've hatched.

I'm thinking of getting something similar,
but given that I'll mostly be using it as a monitor anything bigger than 22" is going to be ridiculous. Samsung make some fairly nice ones.

one of the computers I use at work has a screen that is something like 27"
it's awful to use. you don't want to be turning your head to look at one side or the other.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 16:40, Reply)
That makes sense
The problem is that dropping right down to 22" only makes around £20 difference which offends my inner skinflint.

I can appreciate that
personally I've gone for a 32" tv and a 19" monitor. I'd probably go a bit bigger on the monitor if I were to buy again, but that's because my bedroom is big and I watch stuff on the computer a fair bit. using it for computer work it is fine.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 16:58, Reply)
I use the 17" 1920x1200 screen on my Macbook and a 24" of the same resolution, and it's perfect for me.
Yeah', sure, I'm turning my head, but it means I can have 4 things open at the same time where all I have to do is glance my eyes to each window. I find it really handy being able to, say, edit my code and view the results from the edits and have another browser open for non-work related stuff (like b3ta) at the same time.

I thought the same
I bought a 32" thinking not too big not too small. It was too big as a monitor and too small as a TV (I have a very big living room) So now the 32" is on my bedroom wall and I have had to buy smaller monitors for the PC (I opted for three 19") and a bigger TV in the living room. Massive TV's just don't work as a monitor and a monitor is actually better quality than even a HDTV and won't make your eyes hurt so much.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 16:54, Reply)
No, seriously, it would be rubbish, the screen resolution is way to small.
If you're going for a 32", you wan't something that is "1080p", which gives you a screen resolution of 1920x1080. Anything less than that, eg, that one's 1366 x 768 would look shit as a PC monitor.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 17:02, Reply)
A very good point
I shall look further. Something more like this perhaps - cheaper too.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 17:38, Reply)
That'd be fine.
I have a 24" @ 1920X1200 as my main monitor/TV and a 17" @ 1280X800 as a secondary at the moment, the 24" is fine but I'm thinking about what you were and replacing the 17" with a 32", maybe the cheap 1080p Toshiba that Sainsbury's are doing at the moment.
