Well, that wasn't too interesting
So, time for the Generic Lunch Thread!

Today, Mulligatawney Soup with a bread roll. Yawn.

Yourself?

Alt Q: Is there anything you should count yourself as a snob in? I've been arguing with a bloke at work because he wants to go and watch "Let Me In", and I've been pointing out that everything about the original is better, even though I've not even seen the new one yet.

Is butter bland?
Can I have butter?
I turned down a bacon barm this morning.

Why can you only eat bland?
That's sad times

How are you luv?
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 11:52, Reply)
Avoid pastry.
Pasty's a fucking filler with gastric complaints. I succumbed to a steak pie once and it nearly fucking killed me.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 11:54, Reply)
Oh you're joking?
That has made me sad.
Pies are boss.
I was going to make my steak and ale pie next time the bf visited. Mind you, once in a while isn't too bad eh.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 11:59, Reply)
It very much depends on the pastry I think.
If it's nasty cheap and greasy, avoid at all costs. Good quality and freshly made seems to prevent a gastric attack (on me anyway), but not always. Sadly.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:07, Reply)
Hows about puff pastry?
You know, pastry for puffs
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:09, Reply)
Should be OK mostly.
The lighter the pastry the fewer the problems in my experience. I haven't had an episode for a good few months now, and if I do I take gaviscon and have a milky drink. Or if not gaviscon handy, peppermint.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:19, Reply)

I'm excellent thanks, just drowning in deadlines

I would not eat a crow
I respect them too much.
A Bad Thing would happen to me if I ate a crow.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:29, Reply)
I'm not a snob
I'm very fussy in the sense of what I like and who I socialise with, but it's not snobbery in the conventional sense.
How much money something costs does not necessarily mean quality these days.
How much money someone earns says nothing about their character.
Using the brand name of something instead of naming it is for tits.(Apart from Hoover and Tannoy. That's fine by me.)
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:04, Reply)

In fact there's also Coke and Pepsi. But you know what I mean. When birds say "My Manolo Blahniks" instead of "My shoes" or "My Prada jacket" instead of "My parka". Are you so insecure and in awe of money that you have to desperately mention it? If you were truly 'minted' or 'well-bred' you'd find that sort of name-dropping very crass. I bet you had nits and dodged the rent man as a child.
(I am speaking about a particular girl I know here. Can you tell?)
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:08, Reply)
You can tell
And I hate that too. Mind you, I don't tend to buy branded clothes, certainly not designer labels, as I find it hard to believe that a t-shirt (for example) is worth spending more than 20 quid on.

It's that fear that some people have. My friend drives me potty.

^ oh, this in spades
It's the same fucking sweatshops, the same fucking sewing machines and how many daft cunts try to tell me the stuff's much better made? Do they realise that 48 of their 50-odd pounds is going straight to Calvin fucking Klein's pocket?
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:17, Reply)
There are Coke and Pepsi
But they're the names of the drinks themselves as much as the name of the company. Besides, how many times have you had this conversation in a pub:
"...pint of best, small white wine and a coke please."
"Er, we've got Pepsi, is that alright?"
"Meh."
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:11, Reply)
Many times, but if they only have Pepsi, I order lemonade, can't stand the stuff.

Are you making a serious claim that you can tell the difference?

(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:12, Reply)
Yes
I am confident I could pass blind taste tests.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:13, Reply)
Fair enough. I can see a distinction between their 'diet' and 'regular' varieties
But between the two brands, I really fail to see how they differ.

Pepsi tastes like swigging sugar

(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:15, Reply)

My sister didn't believe me either when I said I could taste the difference, so we did actually do a taste test and I can. Pepsi can only be drunk on sufferance and in the absence of anything else more palatable.

(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:25, Reply)

^ pretty much this.
I freely admit to doing most of my basic bulk-buy food shopping at Aldi. Their frozen chicken breasts are half the price of fresh from mainstream supermarkets, you get more and it's not filled with fucking water. I tried stir frying some fresh chicken breasts from Asda once; I may has well have just dropped them in a pan of boiling water.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:11, Reply)
Mind you don't let Swipe hear you saying you shop at Aldi
She'll stop talking to you!
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:12, Reply)
A lot of their stuff is far superior to anything you can get in mainstream supermarkets.
For basics it's sound. I do supplement the basic shop from other places, but why spend double the money when you can get the same basic quality at half the price?
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:14, Reply)
That was exactly my point
Especially their frozen stuff.
(, Wed 10 Nov 2010, 12:15, Reply)
