I'm having to do some work outside work hours. This happens to me very very rarely, but happens to others from my office an awful lot.
They don't seem to mind too much, whereas I tend to be massively resentful. Do you have to bring work home? Does it piss you off?
Alt: anyone heard any good new bands recently?

I couldn't imagine anything worse, unless you love your job. But still it's asking a bit much of you.
How big a workload is it?
(, Mon 6 Dec 2010, 17:38, Reply)
they are both teachers and by the sounds of it have to work late into the evening every night of the week, and on sundays
fuck that
I don't have a great deal to do. Invoices and forecasts for year end. Unfortunate timing that they come out today and need to be done by thursday and because of my secondment means I don't have the time to do it.

she worked evenings, weekends and holidays. it's hard work for bugger-all pay, when you consider what teachers contribute.
moar pay for teachers, doctors and nurses, i say.

everyone thinks we just work short hours and have big holidays. Fair play, though, I mostly love me job, it just gets in the way of having a life sometimes

Alt Q: no good new bands, but some good new (to me) songs

what new songs?

and because I was in a bad mood I went hunting and managed to accumulate a playlist of terrible music to cheer me up and/or depress me a bit more

on Thursday and Friday. Part of my job is to administer the remote access side of things.
I was extremely resentful when I was expected to remote in to work on days when I would otherwise have been at work in order to do the work I was contractually obliged to do.
Is this unreasonable? I wanted to be playing Gran Turismo 5 instead.

I can't believe I sold my Playstation to fund flights to Milan. For ninety quid. Worth it though.

I generally don't give a fuck unless I have something specific to do after work.
Alt Q: Yes, yes I fucking did and they were brilliant. It's probably very very old news to the rest of you but THAT FUCKING TANK were amazing when i saw them last week and my ex-bassist's new band Turbowolf are bloody ace too. Just come back off tour with Korn and I'm sure they're gonna be big in the next year.

in fact, working in a lab makes that kind of difficult. I am still at work now, however, and frequently have to come in early/stay late/come at weekends to check or start experiments etc.
However since they don't give a fuck what I do as long as I get my work done it seems fair - certainly I'd rather have the flexibility to feck off home early or go to the pub for lunch as and when I feel like it than work 9-5.
(, Mon 6 Dec 2010, 17:49, Reply)
i am usually in by 8.30 and actively feel guilty if i ever leave at 5.30. most often i work til 7.30-8pm, but if i have a lot on, it can be a whole run of post-midnight finishes.
theoretically i can log-in and work from home, but in practice i inevitably need textbooks or files, so it never works. i will, however, be doing the Trainee's appraisal from home (whilst watching america's next top model) tonight.
(, Mon 6 Dec 2010, 17:51, Reply)
I couldn't fucking stand working till half 7 or 8
as far as I'm concerned my job is the least important bit of my life and it already takes up too much fucking time.

it is expected that you will be here if necessary, and i am also someone who sunbathes with blackberry in hand when on holiday!
but i could also cut down my hours if i were more efficient during the day and didn't come on here or chat to colleagues - however, that is how i break up my day and make it enjoyable.
(, Mon 6 Dec 2010, 18:02, Reply)
I have no doubt I could get my work done 9-5 with ease if I didn't cock about on here so much or go for 90 minute lunches and 45 minute coffee breaks in the afternoon!

I've never had a problem but it still scares me, there are loads of things to bash me with in here, and no one to hear me if I scream

is for the specific purpose of working from home, although when I do do this tend to work longer hours than I normally do at work anyway. I wouldn't consider doing work at a weekend. I do occasionally work late if there's a pressing deadline to meet, or a late meeting I have to attend (which is quite frequent) but that's Monday - Friday and I can take the time back if I need to.

The club's the most stable it's been since Robson; a few bad results shouldn't be the catalyst to dismiss the manager unless the club is right at the bottom of the table.

I was heavily into Warp & Rephlex stuff when I was 22/23.
You'll like Vector Lovers and his record label Iwari. Some mates of mine have had records out on that label, another has a tune about to be released on Bunker and another's putting together a demo for Ovum.
