I absolutely, point blank refuse
to buy a razor with more than 3 blades on it. I may have been suckered along on the ride as far as 3, but no farther!

No matter how many knobs, whistles, vibrating bits, sonic pulsers or battery operated laser targetted beard-hair vapourisers they add, I refuse to believe it will shave me any better than my little 3 bladed warrior (which I resharpen on my arm every time I use it, negating the need to buy replacement blades at a million quid a pop).

Ha! Take that, gillette! Put that in your smoke and pipe it, wilkinson's sword! You won't be duping me, and all your clever yet useless gadgets are a big waste of money!

I'm really not that much of a rebel, am I?

The throw-aways last longer anyway.
And you can do away with after shave product as well. Rub your fingers around your brow, then where you've shaved. The natural oils and sebum keep your skin far softer than any product I've tried.
Should be a top tip that one.

Also, I've found own-brand disposables perform better than the big names and don't cut your face to ribbons.

And how
do you resharpen a razor on your arm?
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:09, closed)
This.
Please share. I have hair like wire, and blades seem to go blunt in a week.
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:12, closed)
It's like stropping a blade.
you push the blade along the arm, in a opposite motion to shaving. Not sideways otherwise you will look like some sort of self-harm emo.

Under a microscope, the cutting edge of the blades are actually serrated. Shaving misaligns the teeth. Stropping it on your arm realigns them again making the blade sharp again.

Actually, the heel of the hand, particularly at the base of the thumb is better as it is slightly rougher.

Make sure you wet it first.

Ooh I like that trick!

This. (edit: n/m answer turned up during my reply)
Electric shavers FTW though. Too much of a faff all that razor malarkey
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:25, closed)
are you 14?

(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:53, closed)
Yes
Twice

Electric shavers...
In my experience, use one at 7am, and need a close shave by 11am
(, Mon 21 Jun 2010, 16:22, closed)
I've got one of the vibrating ones
they are well worth it. Disposable razors can kiss my arse. The vibrating ones are the shit.

they are well worth it. Disposable razors can kiss up

I had to read it very carefully...
It was worth the effort!

Mach 3 FTW
I've tried Quattro and whatevr else has more on. It drags on the face. three blades is just right.
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:25, closed)
Thanks to a previous employment at P&G
I have enough mach 3 blades to last me 'til I'm 40. I'm not sure if this is :) or :(

In 2007
I bought 5 packs of 4 off eBay. (New I hasten to add)

After learning the 'sharpen on your arm' trick, the last pack has lasted me a very long time.

I might just grow a beard

product
whatever your blade preference (and I agree, more than three just seems to be a waste of time) your "foam" choice may also make a difference, and stop the expensive little fuckers wearing down so quick.

Stuff the Gillette foam, forget "King" of Shaves (which must at some point bring badgers and their posteriors to mind), give Somerset's Shaving Oil a try. I don't own shares or get a commission (more's the pity) but my face is as smooth as an infant's hindquarters...

as smooth as an infant's hindquarters
how often do you do the comparison?
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 16:58, closed)

You should ask my better half.

Maybe I should get worried about her...
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 17:51, closed)
Hair conditioner works amazingly well as a shaving oil, I've found.

(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 21:55, closed)
You've got my vote.
Three blades are as useful as it gets. No fourth blade, no vibrating handle, no bells and whistles, and certainly no disposables (I've already spent long enough getting cut to ribbons, thank you very much).
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 18:49, closed)
Disposables are teh evil

personally...
i use a genuine single blade Safety Razor tm what my grandad bought my dad when my dad turned 16.
i use Palmolive tm shaving soap and a badger brush i got in Germany about 15 years ago.
when i'm feeling frisky i use a straight razor a retiring barber gave me one day when i was surveying his shop prior to it being put on the market about 20 years ago.
i whole-heartedly concur with stropping the blade on yer own skin but i find one blade is ample for me.
having said that, i never shave in the morning or if i'm in a hurry.
i like to take my time over it.
(, Sat 19 Jun 2010, 20:27, closed)
Big up the badger brush
Certainly stops the rash, my daddy never taught me how to shave so I had to work it out for myself :-(
(, Sun 20 Jun 2010, 21:54, closed)
3 is too many
About a year ago I changed to using a double edged safety razor and though it takes a little longer I'm getting a far better shave than I ever have. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper; a year's supply of blades costs less than a month's supply super-mega-ultra-multiblade refills. Feather blades are great.

A beard is natures way of showing you are a man
Listen to nature and grow one. All it takes then is a quick trim when it starts to get a bit bushy
