what do you do to keep your GIF animations so small?
i really dont know what programs you are using. if i export an animation with only a few frames out of after effects with say 128 colours the file size will still be too big for the front page and Imageready doesn't make it much smaller either - only look worse. So so far I've never figured out what you use for all those quite LONG gifs on the front page.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:09, archived)
I can help.

Awkward.

Is Sammi's real name Stacy?
It certainly looks like Sammi.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:35, archived)
I edited the face in MS Paint
Maybe that's what's confusing you
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:38, archived)
That's good news?

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:36, archived)
Real-life gasp

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:43, archived)
What's Catherine got to say about it?

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:45, archived)
on the brightside...it was a ginge

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:46, archived)
I keep them so small by not making them.

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:10, archived)
I load the gif then walk to the other side of the room

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:10, archived)
we at /talk make gifs all the time

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:11, archived)
because we're /talk

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:11, archived)
ask qotw

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:11, archived)
oh well i know this is talk
yet i cant post such a question on the image board either so i assumed people who use the image board also use the talk board instead of two parties completely avoiding each other- arch enemies
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:13, archived)
we're more than arch enemies
it's worse than palestine and isreal
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:14, archived)
That's not really a fair comparison
The Israeli-Palestine problem is about finding the right solution.
/board's problem is about finding the right resolution.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:17, archived)
man, i'm totally stealing this joke and then deleting this subthread and then making this joke

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:18, archived)
yep it's tricky
you see we started /talk for people to chat but as time has gone on it's evolved it's own cast of characters, many of them having never photoshopped a kitten in their life.

Threadjacking on the mainboard is the partial solution.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:14, archived)
I don't even know what a photo, shop or a kitten is

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:15, archived)
we're a bunch of wacky cunts here on /talk

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:16, archived)
Comedy gold with every post

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:16, archived)
And now we are your favourite and you're wondering why you even need /board?
Right?
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:30, archived)
He says he's closing us down in one week :(

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:32, archived)
You can
just not in a new thread
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:15, archived)
There are a few people who can't make pictures who use the main /board
Killerkitti is a prime example

I'm surprised riverghost's head hasn't exploded because of that.

Perhaps he just used the Hide button.

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:45, archived)
I dunno, he usually lets you know if he's hiding the thread or putting you on IGNORE.

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:46, archived)
I don't think that anyone would ever put me on ignore.
I really am quite inoffensive.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:51, archived)
you're more likely to get answer by posting on /board
but not starting a new thread but posting on someone elses going something like, "sorry for the threadjack but... what do you do to keep your GIF animations so small?"
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:12, archived)
aww man, rob
you're rubbish at /talk
we're meant to be all moody and cynical and cliquey
what the fuck, man

I don't know.

alright markporter

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:14, archived)
If you're using Photoshop or Imageready
Go to the File menu, click Save Optimized as, and when the next window opens, take out your cock, put it in a drawer and then smash the door repeatedly against your flaccid member until it's battered to a bloody pulp reminiscent of a half-chewed king prawn covered in tomato sauce.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:14, archived)
oh that sounds like this advice has been
field-tested by you and turned out to be a good solution so I'll defiantly give it a shot. Thanks
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:17, archived)
Make the loop seem longer than it is.
Keep the colours simple or reduce the size of the colour pallette. Manually knock out some of the colours you can't really see, but are being used. If this still isn't working you could try 1 pixel tall horizontal lines at 1 pixel intervals. It'll darken the image somewhat, but reduce it's size.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:15, archived)
See if you look at happy toasts thing here right:
www.b3ta.com/board/9951602

You can see he's not used a large colour palette and it's also a fairly small image.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:17, archived)
he won't thank you, mike
they never do
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:19, archived)
Looks like he's working his way down.
Oh man I'm due a good thanking. I hope I get thanked.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:19, archived)
edge of my seat, right here

Shut it down, everyone go home.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:24, archived)
Looks like he's given up replying.
What a prick, I was hoping for a good thanking right there.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:24, archived)
Seriously though, this is why I usually call people asking for help on here fucking pricks immediately.
I think we've all learnt a valuable lesson here about the reception we should give new people asking questions.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:25, archived)
what a shitcunt

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:37, archived)
you might as well edit each post to mention mono's bumhole now

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:25, archived)
Why bother?
I had to talk to a guy the other day who had a seven hundred frame .GIF on his website homepage. it was about eight MB. The page as a whole was nearly 18MB. I did a bit of maths afterwards and worked out that it'd take nearly 35 minutes to load it on a dialup connection.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:24, archived)
NEXT WEEK ON MUNDANE MATHS
WORKING OUT HOW MANY ATOMS ARE IN A PENCIL
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:25, archived)
Every time somebody loaded the page it cost him 4p.
I refreshed it a few times and got my colleagues to do the same.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:30, archived)
And even then, you'd probably lose the connection partway through and have to start again.

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:25, archived)
I use Animation Shop that used to come with Paint Shop Pro
it has quite good optimisation options that let you decide how many colours you want to sacrifice and stuff like that.
Then basically keep degrading the animation until it fits the FAQ's 400k request.

Here's a link to the demo
www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Editors/Animation-Shop.shtml
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:33, archived)
You should just edit this to call him a prick now.

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:34, archived)
?

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:41, archived)
The chap asking for help is doing the same thing that everyone who asks for help does over here
They ask their question. Get taken aback by the comedy replies. Then doesn't thank the people actually helping. And never posts here again.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:43, archived)
gotcha

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 19:00, archived)
The prick's ignoring two threads on two different boards all full of people looking to help him out.
That does make him a bit of a cunt.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:43, archived)
Make your animation half width, then double its display size in HTML code
See this thread
www.b3ta.com/board/6654622

make sure the display width is 2x or 3x the image width or peoples computers will not process it fast enough to display well
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 18:48, archived)
photoshop has a really good "save for web" option
it allows you to resize your anim and change the amount of colours just before you save it, PS cs3 ftw.
