It's a good thing you
hide behind that psuedonym. I'm actually a web snitch for the BSA, the RIAA and the MPAA.
I'm not some hippy Open Source advocate or Linux geek or anything like that. Honest. I'll bust your ass down, mister!

I have
Photoshop. Apparantly there is something called gimp out there for free. or of course you could just get a warez photoshop. (shock horror)

Wow, I think
you're the first person I've met whose warezed photoshop. We kinda have a rule around here that you have to save up *real* hard and but a copy to show those nice people at Adobe (forgetting their exorbitant prices and the Skylarov incident) how much we appreciate all their hard work.
Shame on you.

try www.downloads.com
for a shareware/freeware gif animator and use MSPaint if you haven't got a better image program.
Althought I shouldn't mention it but (cough) try Kazza (cough)

www.gimp.org
alternatively, paint shop pro seems to get given away for free on magazine covers quite regularly. you might want to give that a shot!

You might consider Photoshop Elements.
It has many of the less advanced components of Photoshop, but much cheaper and easier to learn.
Or get an old version of Photoshop second-hand, via ebay etc.

paint shop pro
it's easy to use once you've played with it for a while
+ it's cheaper than Adobe, not as computery and far less wanky
