# I realise that now.
This compo has got me all 'Carry On' and double entendre.
However my statement remains :¬)

# I know what you mean
Now if she had a pet beaver, that would another matter...
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:34, archived)
# would you be making comments about stroking her beaver?
because that would obviously be very wrong and not in the least bit drool material.
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:36, archived)
# Um....I think you want

# Aww
How hard are they to keep?
I've heard they can get smelly
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:36, archived)
# these were working ones,
kept outside in rabbit-style hutches, fed on dry cat food and exercised daily in runs. They were stinky, but if you keep them as pets I hear you can have their scent glands removed
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:39, archived)
# working ferrets?
what exactly did they work as?
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:41, archived)
# rabbiting
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:51, archived)
# She has a scent..
but I don't think it smells bad. It's kind of skunky, but very faint, and only is amplified if she gets wet, like during a bath. Thier scent glands go on overload then !
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 18:08, archived)
# looks like my one smeagle
is she half polecat by any chance?
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:37, archived)
# Donno..
She is just a good ol' American domesticated ferret.. although I hear they are descended from polecats..?
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 18:09, archived)
# AAaaaaaarghghg!
silly maybe, but this is NOT random

*sigh*

# I know this to be true
But the phrase is such a common one that even I'm in the habit of using it sometimes without thinking, and when I do realise I can never think of a suitable replacement- want to help me out?

Also- Ironic.
That gets used inappropriately all the time, but we mostly learn meanings from usage, and I struggle with that one too. I've looked it up many, many times, and still can't quite figure out proper context
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:29, archived)
# it's like rain, on your wedding day
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:34, archived)
# I can get as far as 'like a traffic jam, when you're already late...
...if you worked for town/highway planning'

But not much further :/
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:36, archived)
# the song 'Ironic' is not a good yard-stick for the word.
which in itself is kinda ironic, and quite possibly was the original intention.
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:39, archived)
# I know, that's my point
But you can take that one example and make it ironic, I just can't get a definition clear enough in my head to do it elsewhere
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:42, archived)
# Irony is a form of speech in which the real meaning is concealed or contradicted by the words used
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:44, archived)
# Thanks, mister
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:53, archived)
# People mostly use the term random
when they actually mean weird, strange or silly

But I do understand that if everyone is using it, it's hard to steer clear of it. And once you do use it, nobody understands you any more :)
(, Fri 4 May 2007, 9:41, archived)
# I say we try and reintroduce the usage of 'hatstand' then!
/problem solved
