it's a known fact that in Greek armies they had gay units called 'scared bands'which had both partners in the same unit. They were well regarded for their fighting ability. Greeks also considered women far far beneath them, so sex with men by some Greeks considered sex with equals. But not all were gay, hence the 'comedy' Lysistrata about women on sex strike
