# apologies for the outburst

Also, I know Internet petitions don't work, but I thought I'd do one anyway.....
petitions.pm.gov.uk/food-packaging/ pass it on to anyone else who'd want to sign it.

in fact I love all the GTAs. The best bit about the first one was if you killed enough policemen you got the message COP KILLER! in big letters across the screen and if you did enough pedestrians it comes up with GENOCIDE!

# 'ning Toasty
I heard a good point on the radio this morning.

The advert about recycling cans says they could be made into a car or a plane . . . surely that would INCREASE my carbon footprint if I recycle a can . . .

but the other meaning is a bit pisspoor isn't it?
how long did it take the monkeys to think up a catchy name like that?

edit:
"A carbon footprint is often expressed as tons of carbon dioxide or tons of carbon emitted, usually on a yearly basis. "

So, like, its not actually anything that could be considered in any way a footprint at all. Lying fuckers.

did you know that tetra packs are recyclable. WHERE FACILITIES EXIST! I think there's a facility in Scotland.

Tetrapacks are evil. The guy who invented them is a multi-millionaire and he doesn't give a shit about anything

# to be honest, I think you'd have more signatories if you started a petition entitled:
"We, the undersigned, have in our lifetime, attempted to start an online petition to force the nation/community/world* to ban the use of non-recyclable packaging".

Noble cause and all, but it ain't gonna happen when we're still buying the stuff off the shelves in the first place.

*delete as appropriate
(, Tue 10 Jul 2007, 11:04, archived)
# people are stupid and lazy, unless the manufacturers are forced
the spend the extra 0.03p on plastic to use the recyclable sort then yes, we will continue to buy it.

You can't ask people to do things themselves that will upset their life in a teeny, tiny way, which is why the petition actually makes some sense.
(, Tue 10 Jul 2007, 11:09, archived)
# not really, as you rely on these lazy, and stupid 'people' (suggesting the majority) to sign the petition in the first place to make the peition big enough to have an effect...
thus they are 'doing it themselves' and not being so stupid, and lazy. If they're stupid and lazy enough to not
care a tinker's cuss when they're actually in the supermarket,
what makes you think a small percentage of them would actually sign an online petition.

people just don't care that much until it's in their back yard, it's driven by greed, not by ethics, and I'll tell you now, there is NO WAY on this Earth
that Gordon Brown will introduce ANYTHING like this in the next few years, as it'll upset the applecart with so many companies and producers,
and he needs all the stabiliy help he can get
to make his tenure as comfortable as possible in these early days
(, Tue 10 Jul 2007, 11:11, archived)
# yes, I was suggesting that signing a petition
was less imposing on their lives than suggesting the stop buying cheap, non degrading plastics.
(, Tue 10 Jul 2007, 11:14, archived)
# you're sort of reaching for the 'middle england daily express/guardian' route then
as said, nice idea, good cause and all, but so many people have tried this, and it becomes inneffectual in it's approach.
It's a lot easier for downing street to drag all the signatories across into a folder on a computer and conveniently forget about it than it is to open letters, actually have to READ comments and letters. THAT's what is needed. Make someone actually do some friggin' work that end to start making people realise.
