and i just did the very friendly 50k as a rule of thumb still image advice bit, posted a link to lemony optimisation, went on to say it's a shame when good posts just get slated because of size and their merits ignored, then i did something odd and deleted the whole bloody thing, and i can't be arsed to write it all again.

but it's something we all try to stick to, most images can be shrunk to that size with no ill effect and those that can't can be thumbnailed and linked. bear it in mind, you look as though you have the humour and the talent all it needs is a little tweaking.
