I spent a good deal of sunday setting up someone elses broadband. It should have taken ten minutes, but it turns out BT was doing work in the area, hence nothing worked. That was a nice waste of a day.

Router lights are your friend. If they were all go expect the connection then you call the line provider and check. If that's fine then it's the line from the router to the wall plug.

Spent a good 8 or 10 hours over two days off that I had to fix the in-laws broadband which they kept moaning was breaking every five minutes. I sort the lot and upgrade everything so their computer runs at light speed and all they can manage is a shrug of the shoulders!?

Can the 'puter see the router? Yes
Can you plug the router plug into your phone and get a dial tone? Yes
It's the router. Routers self configue apart from username, password and DNS.
If all three of those work then check with the line
