'They want to throw God's wonderful breathing system out'

Before a vote on wearing of masks in public, Palm Beach commissioners were harangued by residents.

That's the city called Corona in Riverside County, California.
Not related.
Reportedly, it happened on Friday 19 June; some dick hit a motorbike and carried on; the rider is OK.[1][2][3]
Spectacular video though.

"washing hands is a good idea, but not especially effective ...[against covid-19 because] people spread Covid-19 easily without coughing or sneezing."
...back in March I was trying to tell B3ta that masks are somewhat effective, washing hands is a good idea but can't stop you breathing it in....
benito vaselini "it's the same old brexit shit again"
Plague Hedgehog: "can I interest you in these magic beans?"
custard: "twat"
evil_andy: "Stop buying into and spreading this shit you absolute spastic."
garidead: "Why would I listen to someone on YouTube?" ..(my response to this was: because he's an expert in the field)
barst: "You, Sir
are an utter fucking cock."
mongychops: "I hope your Dad dies"

Do you think the outcome would have been better if everyone had followed whatever advice they could find on youtube rather than what the government was saying?
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 15:11, Reply)

We have the highest death toll in Europe. Our daily deaths resemble the total EU's combined. Countries with masks have done significantly better, as has nearly every other country on Earth except Brazil and the USA.
So yeah.
Right now the official public health advice is deliberately overcomplicated, requiring pages of flow charts and logic diagrams to explain. Messages from government are mixed at best, often chaotic.
I suggest we follow the public health advice from countries with serious leaders and successful covid response policies.

Presumably you dont think people should be following their public health advice?
The OP was about how hand sanitiser is ineffective in stopping the spread of coronavirus btw. Do you agree with that?
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 16:03, Reply)

"The OP was about how hand sanitiser is ineffective in stopping the spread of coronavirus btw" you're twisting my words here, to suit your own argument. again in black and white: if you breath in the virus, hand sanitiser is not going to help you. it does help overall, because it mitigates infection through touching the virus, but alas the vast majority of infections are contracted by breathing. So like I said in March it's not going to have "a big impact". meaning: If we all go about our business with no social distancing and have very clean hands: it's not going to do fuck all to stop the spread by itself . Again, I don't know how much clearer I can show you the truth of the matter.

I don't think people should be following *some* of the UK government's advice when it contradicts or falls short of international standards.
The initial lack of a quarantine on international travel was insane, but now we are the most infected country in Europe we impose quarantine on people entering from countries with lower infection rates, and impose no quarantine on our own citizens leaving this infected hellhole. The government has announced more changes to the quarantine rules today, just to add to the confusion.
The 'support bubble' scheme is a shambles, even I have friends who have been bubbling people who don't live alone. The bubble system combined with the 7 day 2 households overnight rule is a boolean nightmare.
The 7 day isolation rules have always struck me as weird compared to the WHO standard 14 days.
The 2 meter rule was actually better than the international 1m standard, which is why it's so frustrating to have it watered down to "1m plus."
Soap and water are preferable to hand sanitiser, that has always been the official advice. Over-use of hand sanitiser can dry and split your skin, providing more potential points of infection. Unless there are extenuating circumstances (e.g. you, or someone you are caring for has a compromised immune system) I'd only use it when soap and water aren't available.
When I need to go shopping I wear vinyl gloves and wash my hands before and after. I carry a simple mask in case it is not possible to maintain 2m, and I have a more heavy duty active carbon filter mask for when I know I'm going to be in a crowded situation.
Sorry for the wall of text.

Dumb question: but, I'll tell you what I think: I think if everyone did what I did then YES: we would know best practice from the evidence of studies and the advice of experts and from successful systems of mitigation like that in Thailand for example.

My question was would the outcome have been better if *everyone* had thought they knew best and acted as they pleased, according to whatever shit they could find on the internet, instead of following official public health advice.
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 16:21, Reply)

If everyone did as I did, and continue to do, then they would not be acting according to whatever shit they found on the internet. They would be acting according to critical thinking, evidence based studies, and expert advice. Your question is wrong because I am not acting as I please, according to whatever shit I could find on the internet. Stop trying to pull shit out of your ass.

I know that if you have an argument you look like a dick. ...edit... . interesting that the attack towards me seems to be turning into "why are you talking? you're mental and you're not going to change anyone's mind." Rather than "you're talking shit and you're wrong wrong wrong" which is what is was at the time. also by the way, I made one post on this link. and replied to other peoples points, I didn't set out to go on a mental rant saga. It ended up that way only because of these people arguing with me. so blame them and yourself for feeding the troll.

I'm trying to say that if you want me to be silent, then don't engage with me. Because all of this horrendous confrontational text I spew is only because people confront me first. It's reactionary.

Which again shows how stupid your question of "what if everyone did as I did" is. Because you've just fucking said that according to you, they can't do as I did.
( , Fri 26 Jun 2020, 10:42, Reply)

The people who don't think they're capable should have followed the government advice, yes?
You think that would have produced a better outcome? Fewer deaths, slower spread, flattened curve etc etc
( , Fri 26 Jun 2020, 11:12, Reply)

just stop trying to trap me with these false equivalencies. I get it, you don't like someone on the internet being mean to you. I'm bored of this.
( , Fri 26 Jun 2020, 11:20, Reply)

Kind of. I recall you advised heavy-duty masks, not just three layers of fabric stitched together.
This is because the evidence has been built up that widespread mask-wearing might have an effect on transmission. It's not conclusive, and the public health advice is at least partly to reassure people that it's safe to go out again.
Still, it doesn't change the fact that your original insistence on masks wasn't evidence-based. You'd just seen one expert say something, and then proceeded to ram it down everyone's throats like you'd single-handedly discovered the cure for cancer.
The fact that you accidentally backed a horse that may (or may yet not) be the 'right' one doesn't change the fact that the hostile reaction you received was about 95% down to you being such an obnoxious fucking prick about it.
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 14:10, Reply)

There really is no debate on that fact now.
At the time I advised N95 masks or better. You can see an N95 Mask in the thumbnail above. Hardly heavy duty
and don't you think that the W.H.O. would be recommending N95 masks instead of home made ones if they were ubiquitous? Think a little next time.
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 14:22, Reply)

I used one expert as an example, which is different to "just seeing one expert say something". As to ramming down peoples throats: If you got that impression it's because I was reacting to the fucking shitty and stupid attitude of wankers as quoted above. (you included) Had they not done that, or thought critically and logically then the conversation would have been more like, "cheers for the link". "you're welcome"
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 14:30, Reply)

I wasn't calling you an absolute spastic for saying masks were effective. You didn't mention masks at all in your post.
I called you an absolute spastic for saying hand sanitiser wasn't effective - which it is.
But good to know you got over it and moved on.
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 15:22, Reply)

"I wouldn't tell you to stop using Hand Sanitiser, but don't think it's going to have a big impact on this bug". .. this is what you replied to. The rest of what you think I said is made up by you. You're absolutely wrong and go fuck yourself.
( , Thu 25 Jun 2020, 15:48, Reply)

Regretfully, I must inform you that you are wrong. I can prove it too.
I look forward to revisiting this argument in three months when I've forgotten about it again.

L E T S G O, here, march 2020:
if you have an opinion, you're missing out on key facts.
I think we've all had enough of what experts have to say.
I don't fucking care about what you have to say mate.
It seems you don't care about what I believe.
Unfortunately people have their own views on reality and my completely logical one falls on deaf ears.
