This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Part 2
Hand rolled cigarettes (of the non-comical variety), Tizer, processed foods, Argos furniture, UPVC doors, white van drivers, un-tended gardens, disposable barbeques, tinned vegetables, excessive jewellery, chewing gum, tattoos, facial piercings, hair products on men, fake tan, soap opera actors (and viewers), people who bring packed lunches to work, any foodstuff purchased from a petrol station, plastic garden furniture, branded glassware stolen from pubs for home use, large screen TV’s showing sport in pubs, wallpaper borders, commercial radio, eating English food abroad when on holiday, drinking in airport pubs before 11am, mini cabs, fluorescent tabards (and their wearers) and tabloid newspapers.

A response
rollies are better than straights, I look like a twat unless I put wax in my hair, I'd rather eat a lunch I'd lovingly crafted than the shit that is available from sandwich vans and such like, my Stella pint glasses are awesome,

everything else is pretty fair.

Given that this is part two of a fairly sweeping list
I take it you don't have any friends?

Fluorescent Tabards?
Just because I don't fancy being killed on my bike doesn't mean I'm common.

Oh, and sorry for ever buying a packet of Walkers from a Shell Garage.

Airport drinking
Airport drinking reeks of the lower middle classes (read working class - you are what you are, why are you so ashamed?)
(, Thu 16 Oct 2008, 21:03, closed)
Why should I stop drinking
just because I'm in an Airport?
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 12:18, closed)
simple
you are not yet / no longer free to act drunk
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 13:24, closed)

Why do you assume that drinking = getting drunk?

Drinking to get drunk, THAT'S common.

Tizer? Common?!
actually, now I think of it, yeah... It's a poor man's Irn Bru.

Hmm
I agree with all you put excluding:
packed lunch - wha? Damn site cheaper than the alternatives.
fluorescent tabards (and their wearers) - I cite bike usage as above.
I think you just have a thing against builders.

But tabloid newspapers - Fuck yes!

Is it OK
To nick non-branded glasses then?

How are rollies common?
Rolling cigarettes is an art. Getting them in packs requires no skill and also, a straight doesn't have the aesthetic quality that a really really skinny rolly does.

Also, anyone in a band who smokes, smokes rollies, as far as I can tell. And I've met a lot of bands. Although musicians probably are common, thinking about it, but still, i like them.

Oh...
I tick most of those...especially the airport drinking one - gonna be at Heathrow at 5.30am tomorrow, wonder what I'll be drinking? (having already found out the bars open at that time).

Oh well, weekend in Milan for me :)

Exception please
for tinned spinach, which is perfectly good. Especially as fresh spinach goes off approximately 3.4 seconds after I put it in my fridge.
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 12:55, closed)
and disposable barbeques?
if I'm going out to the country, and want cooked food, I'm not going to cart a fucking great big BBQ and gas tank with me, am I?
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 15:18, closed)
How else can you deal with the misery of an airport without a few drinks?
And there's nothing wrong with packed lunches.
