Have you ever been photographed sat on a balcony eating a croissant; or wallowed in luxury just for the sake of it? What's the most ostentatious thing you ever seen or done?

just on booze in Ibiza, luckily it was on expenses...

I just can't spot the jokes, not because they aren't funny but just because they're so close to the 'genuine' posts.
This could just as easily be 'haha politicians claim loads of expenses', 'haha I'm referencing a news story', 'haha look at all the lies' or equally 'I spent £75,000.00 in four days but don't worry it was on expenses'.

Then delete the 'wrong' ones when the OP replies, explaining their rationale.

its sympathetic to the OP if they've tried to make a funny and makes them look even worse if they're a liar becuase my response implies that their story beggars beleif.

Absolutely true, £750 bottles of Champagne, £500 bottles of grey goose, all day, all night, racks up pretty quickly. Obviously it's ridiculously over priced when you drink in VIP areas and beach clubs over there, but I wasn't paying so I just enjoyed it. It's not the worst drinks bill I've seen. Some guys from a city brokerage racked up $189,000 in the Wynn hotel in Vegas.

You could get 150 of those, which is 675 litres of very expensive vodka.
I've no idea what the absolute limit of vodka that a healthy person could drink in 4 days.
Already this claim sounds pretty unlikely but we need more detail.

and factor in 14 people.
It still leaves over 24 litres of vodka per person over 96 hours.
That's 1/4 of a litre of vodka every hour, non stop for 4 days.
That's if all the money was spent solely on vodka and 14 people were drinking it constantly for 4 days.

No company would ever justify £75,000 in four days for a marathon piss-up holday, anyway, ignoring the rest.

Just because something is stupid and pathetic and indictivive of what is wrong with huge parts of society doesn't make it false.

Believe what you like, but it happened. Brokers do this stuff all the time. Although with the new anti-bribery laws this kind of corp entertainment may have to stop...

500 gets you 1 litre of Grey Goose in Pacha, Amnesia etc.. we also bought a 6 litre bottle of grey goose for 3000 in Pacha which came out on a little wheel barrow (which didn't all get drunk I might add) Also the tables we had in these clubs were mainly minimum spend of 10,000 euros, so even if you didn't drink that much you got charged. Blue Marlin Beach club was the same, we had the main cabana which was min spend of 5 grand but we spent over 10 in there. Anyway, it all added up.

FFS. Spend five minutes in a pub in the city to know all you'll ever need to know about these people.
Dear Christ.

I think tarring all city people with the same brush is pretty ignorant, yes some are loaded, obnoxious wankers, but that doesn't apply to all.

I stayed in the Hoxton hotel once in London for a gig, it was full of banker/money cunts, I have never felt such utter loathing for humanity as I felt sitting in that bar and earwigging the conversations.

I'm shocked the place had the balls to charge them for a San Pellegrino after they'd spent 189 grand. The worst thing is the 29 grand service charge, surely it gets to a point where service should be capped rather than a %!

but this isn't a receipt from a bill run up by a City brokerage firm. This was posted on Twitter by a writer from Sports Illustrated:
https://twitter.com/#!/SI_BenReiter/status/68762417047412736
So, unless you have some special knowledge of where this receipt came from that the rest of the internet lack, I call bullshit. Especially given that it's reportedly photoshopped anyway.

I was told it was from a city brokerage firm, the chain of emails I got it on originated from mf global, so presumed it was from there. Either way the Ibiza spend happened.

I always trusted email chains. I feel so foolish :-(
But your original story could easily be true. 10 - 20 people over 4 days could easily spend that much, especially if it's not coming out of their own pockets.
And there are wankers and decent people in the City, same as there are wankers and decent people in every industry. The difference being that most wankers working at Tesco don't have enough money for Ferrarris and expensive hookers, so don't attract the same level of vitriolic hatred we save for those we don't like and who earn more than us...

A couple of points - the top tables on the upper balcony at Amnesia cost €5k, with a minimum spend of €3k (included in the price), and a bottle of Goose there costs €400, not £500. Work in the ForEx and you're looking at the equivalent of c.215 bottles of Vodka between 8-14 of you. Even just spending on Champagne at £550 a bottle you're looking at over 34 bottles a night. Just doesn't add up...

It wasn't just grey goose and standard bottles of champagne being drunk, there was loads of expensive wines over dinner, vintage magnums of Dom Perignon rose (some of which got poured over people) anyway I stand to gain nothing by making this up. I'm not really sure why I'm bothering to explain myself.

We really do give a bad impression of ourselves sometimes:
- there's a question about conspicuous consumption
- someone posts a story about conspicuous consumption
- people have a moan and say it can't be true
- poster provides satisfactory explanation of why it's true
- people starts banging on about everyone in the City being cunts
Chill out. Sometimes stuff happens to people which hasn't happened to you. It doesn't mean they're a liar, and it doesn't mean they're a wanker. The whole point of a QOTW like this is that it's going to bring out interesting stories about experiences we haven't ALL had.

So 350,000 people are all wankers cause they ended up working in the city, I'm a wanker cause I happened to gravitate towards a financial job rather than media, engineering, manufacture, retail or hippy? How is somebody working in the back or middle office of a bank ripping people off when all they're doing is performing an administrative function in the same way as an employee working in any corporation?
everybody in the city is to blame for the financial crisis?
You sound like you've been reading the daily mail too much.
