We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.
Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

Mobile 'phone - allows you to 'phone people.
Camera - allows you to photograph people.
But combining the two - without wishing to be Peter Kay here, but ... who the hell thought that combining the two would be a good idea, and why?
The reason I ask, is because invariably the camera is shit and not worth it. If I want to take a picture of something, I'll use my camera. I can't really see a situation where you'd need a camera on your 'phone.
Bloody stupid idea.
And Apple going on about how their 'phones now have a camera on the front and back! Why? Are you going to take a picture of your ear?! You're an idiot if you fall for that being an advantage!
I'm starting to realise why they said all those things about me.

you don't always have your camera on you, most people always have their phone, so even though it's lower quality you can still capture unexpected moments. Unfortunately this leads to lots of blurry 'OMG look how drunk I was!' photos.
Now get back in your box granddad, there's a good lad

and I'm going to take a photo of you with my iPad

I went to the NHM yesterday and was able to take a photo of the sign for the Tuojiangosaurus (two-wang-oh-sore-us) and text it to one of my mates with a comment about it DP'ing his mum.
Was worth the free admission alone.

I love using it to have video chats with my son on Skype when I'm working three days straight in a field in the middle of nowhere with next to no contact with the outside world.

But if you want something to take pictures with on nights out etc without lugging around a heavy camera then it is quite handy.

It's because you've always got your phone with you. Who can be arsed carrying a camera, too?

instead of one thing, which means more hassle unless you're a female with a handbag

...but my last few phones have taken fucking FANTASTIC photos, so actually it's really handy not having to have my camera with me all the time.
Sorry, old bean!
EDIT: For instance www.flickr.com/photos/kmlabs/2921849666/ (don't click if you're ascairt of spiders, innit)

We feed ‘em all the time, it’s just a little cut at worse. I guess they’re a bit more feisty when they think they're about to get eaten.

Never used the camera on my phone once. Always have my 'real' camera with me.

for the rest of us who just want a snap of someone/something the camera phone is brilliant. I've always got my phone on me
also the video on my Galaxy S 2 is just lovely

It does everything it says on the tin, and then you start finding weird apps like Flashlight or Flightradar. Sky Maps is a great party trick: "who wants to see Uranus?"
And OS Lite is fantastic and much better than Maps for walking.

The garlic bread? It were bigger and more garlicky. And mam let you have a whole baguette to yerself. Never mind you were too busy playing Simon whilst riding yer Chopper to eat the whole garlic bread...

photography now isnt some technical wizardry achievable by those in the know, now everyone can take their own pictures. Theres a good idea.
Also the camera is not invariably shit, my last two phones have had excellent camera and my latest has HD video. Cant afford a fancy DSLR so getting a camera and a phone on the same contract? Genius!
It seems garlic bread is a good idea
